Why does my belt squeal when i turn the A/C on? It only does it from a stop, when im driving it doesnt do it. Its like it just wants to embarrass me from the stop signs. The belt is fairly new, but i do recall it stopped last time i changed the belt. Maybe i should try replacing it again, its been around a year.

How does your tensioner feel, is it pretty hard to move, still have good spring pressure?

See if you have a 635K6 or a 640K6 belt on the car. Some of the replacement lines do not carry the shorter 635K6 (63.5" 6 rib) and list the 640 which is a 1/2" longer belt as the replacement. If you have the longer belt, it will squeal.

If you have the correct belt, either replace with a new one (old rubber gets hard) or use belt dressing to give the belt traction.

The last possibility, is the belt tensioner.

Bingo!

Almost guarantee that's what it is. When you buy replacement belts, TELL them the belt number, don't let them look it up by car/motor. I get mine @ Autozone, Discount/Advanced Auto will sell you the 640K6 as the "right" belt.

One more thing to check..Inspect the bolts that hold the compressor to the bracket and block. They tend to come loose and cause the belt to intitially squeal. It will progressively get worse and eventually cause the belt to run on the rim of the crank pulley and self destruct. That's been my experience.
