looking to upgrade my DS......Car has about 650HP or better....Want to run a trans brake also...

who do you folks recommend??

I know Kirbins had a 3.5" Alum--but it only uses 1330 spicer --I think I should go with a 1350 min..

opinions/suggestions wanted???

The kirban one says it's good for 750hp. And I would go aluminum to reduce rotating weight.

Subscribed. I need one too. Is that 750 rating on the Kirban driveshaft flywheel horsepower? If so, I'll need a better one.

Check out Dennys Driveshafts website. They have several different options for the Grand National in both aluminum and steel. At that horsepower level, they are going to steer you away from an aluminum driveshaft. Usually takes a couple of weeks to get one.

The stock 3r u-joint is almost as strong as a 1350. I would not go to a 1310 or a 1330. I am running a 3" CM driveshaft with 1350 u-joints. An aluminum driveshaft with 1350 or 3r u-joints would be my choice. My CM driveshaft is heavier than stock. I might have an aluminum one made.

I have a Denny's Heavy Duty steel driveshaft bought it over 10 years ago and never had a problem with it.

i wouldnt run aluminum with a brake
driveshaft may survive but on the hit it is harder on pinion yoke and gearset

The guys @PST, Clearwater area, is where we get all of our d/s work done. Super nice folks, no BS, fast shipping....

If you want something that will really reduce the shock load when you launch the car go Carbon Fiber. You'll also save quite abit of rotating weight , a Denny's 3.5 aluminum weighed right at 12.4lbs. loaded , my carbon fiber shaft weighs 7lbs. loaded. But they ain't cheap !!

Carbon fiber from whom? Any website link?

I have two Denny's chrome moly driveshafts- guaranteed not to break or free replacement.

I bought it new in the box from a guy at the 2005 GS Nationals. Iv'e actually forgot the maker, I'd have to go jack the car up and look. GETTING OLD !!

I have a steel unit with 1350 yokes and joints. Car is heavy at 3855lbs, weighed in BG. Yep, has a brake too. $100 cheaper than the CM units I had before with the conversion u-joints. They won't warranty a bent/broken shaft if it fails because of a broken yoke, u-joint, or rear end issue.

My driveshaft is custom made out of steel and is heavy as hell. Rated for 2000hp. No way I can break this.

A good friend who raced superstock put an alum pinion support, lightened spool, lighteded gears, gun drilled axles and an alum shaft. He gained...................................nothing,zippo. I have seen in truck applications that are worked hard the alum d/s ends will actually go egg shape and the ujoint cap will actually turn in the bore:mad:DVOM steel or chrome molly for me
