I started to smell anti-freeze as soon as I slowed down. Thought it was a head gasket for sure but it's just the heater core. What is involved in putting in a heater core? Do I have to remove the whole a/c box? Any tips or tricks to make this easier? As if the oil leaks aren't bad enough......:(

no problem!

All you have to do is remove the windsheild wiper arms & then take off the plastic piece on the pass side & you can see the heater core down in there..remove the 2 hoses & one screw inside holding core in & it should come on out..the one I got to replace didnt look exactly the same..maybe a lil smaller but works perfect & no problems..I waited a while before changing mine..dreading it & it was pretty simple..all those times of wiping that slimmy crap off my winshied & thats all I had to do..well good luck

Sounds pretty easy! I really didn't want to remove the dash or the heater box like some cars. Thanks for the tips!:D

Finished the heater core today, what a walk in the park! That's one of the easiest things I've ever done to my car. Thanks to all for the input.:D Now I will try the rear main and pan.....again. Oh, and the exhaust leaks.

I just blew my heater core as well and I thought it was the head gasket too.It seemed to blow at wide open throtttle around 50mph and 17lbs boost and the car stumbled as the core went. But before I took it out i noticed when i started it up the fog and film inside the cars windshield and also that antifreeze smell,I could barely see the road.I had to pull over and wipe it with my shirt.I don't know of too many cars blowing heater cores from a blown head gasket but it is possible???Anyway since i blew it the car had a major exhaust leak which i think was the crappy copper gasket i used to install the turbo to the manifold. This time i just used some Ultra Copper.Hopefully my engine will not stumble anymore.I did not replace the Heater core yet.I just run the 2 lines together.Just wondering if any one out there had a Blown Heater Core and figured out it was a blown Head gasket later on that caused it:confused:
