Can anybody tell me what the blue goop between the coil pack and the module is. I bought a used coil assy. a couple of years back and discovered the coil pack was cracked, so I seperated the two pieces and they were stored in attic. The heat made the blue stuff run out. So is that blue stuff an insulator and if so is there something i can substitute for it. Thank's Hal

Could be bad news for you.
Usually when I see the blue goop, the ign modular is usually bad.

You will need to have it checked on a Coil/ign tester to be sure if they are still good.

Somewhere here, there is a thread, complete with pictures. The "blue goop" is potting compound, which GM/Delco used to encapsulate the electronics of the control module. Somebody (can't remember who) went to the trouble to remove every drop of the goop, so he could see what the circuit looked like. And his module was still useable without the goop. (The goop in mine is yellow) But the heat in the attic may be worse than the heat under the hood. May still be good, without the blue stuff, but you won't know until you test it.

Thank's for the info, guess the only way to see if it work's is to get another coilpack and try it out. Hal

and i thought it was just nasty stuff to get all over your fingers and tools and never come off.

it may be dielectric grease that someone used on the contacts between the module and coil pack. is it almost like petrolium jelly with a clearish blue color?
