Hi all, I have an 87 GN that is having an issue. The car runs great until it warms up. When I drive the car for a while, say a half hour, it starts to run very rough and I pretty much lose my low end boost. If I really hit the gas the pick up is fine. The warmer the car gets the worse it runs, to the point where it starts bucking back and forth a little. Let her cool down and everything is back to normal. Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks

could be the O2(only use ac delco !), MAF gently tap it while holding the engine at a high idle if it changes with the tap it is bad.

I had what might have been a simialr problem. Does it feel like it's going to die when you come to a stop? If so, it may be that the TCC is not unlocking the converter. The car will buck a little at low RPM and have a hard time building boost if the converter stays locked. This happend to me only when the car was hot.

That sounds like exactly what my problem is. How did you resolve it? I'm not much of a mechanic so i'm not sure what a TCC is. Thanks.

First, to make sure that your TCC (Torque Converter Clutch) solonoid is not unlocking when hot, after you experience the proble, cruise in OD at about 55 - 60 mph. While keeping your right foot steady on the throttle, gently tap the brakes. The RPM should rise a few hundred. If they do not, your TCC is not unlocking. To fix it, you need to drop the transmission pan, undo the fasteners that secure the TCC in the pan, and unplug the electrical connection. I am not very mechanically inclined either yet I was able to do it following the instructions on gnttype.org. If that site is still down, there is an even better write-up on a Monte Carlo SS site. (I can't remember the name but a google search should find it) It was not really very difficult and I purchased the part at a local GM dealer. This would also be a good time to replace the transmission filter.

Thanks for the info. I'm not sure if I will try it myself or whimp out and bring it to a Buick dealer. I appreciate the help.

Thanks,
Mike
