I have a vdo boost/vacuum gauge. Can any one tell me if I can use this gauge to diagnose a possible vacuum leak.My blm's have been hig and my o2's are showing borderline rich readings.Someone on another thread suggested a vacuum leak, just wanna find the problem.thanks

No, not really. It would have to be a LARGE vacuum leak for you to notice it on the gauge.

Vacuum leaks can be tough. Sometimes you can just poke around under the hood and find a cracked vacuum line. I've used a can of WD-40 before.

Spray the WD-40 around on intake gasket joints....around the injectors (can get vacuum leak from o-ring not sealing) etc,. If there is a leak....it will suck in the WD-40 and the idle speed will change.

This makes a pretty big mess if you do it for a while. You can also use a Burnzomatic torch...don't light it...just use the gas to find the leak. BE VERY CAREFUL.

Good Luck

Yep a propane torch with a long hose attached so you can manuver it around is pretty easy to use to check for leaks. Don't smoke when you do this. :)

Jim,

Have you tuned the fuel pressure to center the BLMs/O2s? Are you talking about O2s at WOT being rich? If the car exhibits good driveability and idle you probably don't have a vacuum leak. If the BLM is pegged just at idle that may indicated a vacuum or intake piping leak...or just a chip calibration problem. Call me and we can talk about your tune, if you like.

I will get with you man,I will be going to The Reynolds show with glenn <Maybe we can all cruise up together.
