I have read and read about converters. I know to optain an optimal performing converter I need to hock up the cash for a good one but...... I dont have the cash and I have two converters to use.

I have a 4.1 that is .040, heads tat are just smoothed a little and gasket matched, PT52 turbo, 218/218 flat tappet cam, havent decided on injectors yet but probably 120's with E85, BRF 200R4 lock up trans (basic rebuild), etc.

I just bought a Pats 10" 3200 converter which should show up in the mail soon. I also bought a Red Stripe 12" that lists as 2800-3000. I know many people say there is no way the Red Stripe will stall at 2800-3000 with our V6 motors.

Do you guys think I need the 3200 Pats or would I be better off using the Red Stripe?

budget converter

The pats converters seem nicer, the redstripe is for more of a 12 sec car- the orange stripe has the slightly higher stall making for a little better launch

I'd use the pats, not only does it stall higher, it also has less rotating mass and should be snappier loosing 10 lbs or so off the flywheel.

You could keep your eyes peeled for a good used real AC convertor. Just a thought.

I would go with the Red stripe because the 4.1 should provide good spool down low with the pt52 and the Red stripe will be more efficient on the top end .

Thats pretty much why I posted this thread. I'm thinking the 3200 would be a little loose at the big end. But, I also think the Pats may be better becuase it's a 10" for street beatings.

With the Red Stripe being a 12", do you think it will really stall around 2800-3000 with the larger 4.1 motor?

I'd really like to hear some good opinions on this.

Well if its mainly street the 3200 pat's will be more responsive and alot more fun on the street without a doubt.;)..

You could post in the general tech section and ask the other 4.1 users what converters their using..

i honestly can't see a 2800-3000 restalled D5 being any more efficient up top than a pats... I just haven't had the good luck that others have with the 12" converters.

A 10" converter vs a 12" converter ???

Are you kidding ? ;)

That's a no-brainer dude. Put the Pats converter in it until you can buy a PTC from Dusty.

Had a red stripe converter self-destruct at 5 lbs of boost and take out a brand new transmission. Just my $0.02

If a 12" converter can stall near 3000 it will have way too much negative fin angle and will be terrible in high gear. A good 12" converter won't stall more than 2200-2400. The 4.1 might bump that a couple hundred rpm but it won't be near 3000.

For a fun street car, something in the 3000-3200 range will give instant boost but you'll have to give up 3rd gear mph.
