Well my rearend started whining today and after taking it out, axles were wasted and broken tooth off my ring gear. Since I have it all apart I figured I should just get some parts that will last.
I decided to go with eaton posi and 30 spline moser's and my only concern was should I go with c- clip elim's? I heard this is a pretty wise investment, but also heard they leak or something???? I daily drive my car and dont want to have to deal with a damn leak down the road, if you know what i mean.

comments... suggestions please....

Get the Ford housing ends welded on and buy axles to match. You can get the housing ends in a variety of bolt patterns for either stock brakes, big Ford brakes, or disc brakes. They use a better Ford style bearing, eliminate the c-clips, and don't leak. Moser and others have these.

what Kendall said.....don't mess with the eliminators on a street car

I was wondering how bad the strange eliminators are? Ive also have heard problems with leakage. The problem is my cars rear was built 3 years ago still never run with them and new axles for a 12 bolt. Its starting to make me think about redoing it but would be aroung $1500 I think.

C-clip eliminators on my street-driven GN ...

I have a Moser spool and axles with c-clip eliminators on my street-driven GN with no leakage problems. At first, I DID have a tiny leak at the brakes back plate, but there was a very easy fix to this: I went to a place who sells bearings and seals, and bought two seals that fit in the axle tube and in which the axle fit snugly. I pressed the seals into the axle tubes ( not to deep inside so the seals rests against the machined portion of the axle), and then reinstalled the axles. Since then, I NEVER had a single drop of oil leaking anywhere ! :)
The seal part number I used is 28X55X8DL...I dunno if this can be of any help , but there it is anyway...
That's it! ;)

'bye!
Claude :)

I ran Strange C-clip eliminators and axles for over 10 years on a 12 bolt

Had a seal leak one time at about 80K, replaced both bearings and seals, (used parts store parts by matching part numbers) and had no more problems.

good to hear that there are ways to fix the leakage probs fairly easy that doesnt hurt the pocket book. I was going to go the ford style route until i called the shop dealing with my rearend(cause i hate messing with rearend s**t)and they had already ordered all my stuff so...too late! Ill just deal with the slight leakage prob then fix in like toofast did.

I agree with KendallF. I have the Moser c-clip eliminators and I wish now I had never done that. They dont fit right and leak through the bearings on mine.

I researched all the different ways to eliminate the c-clips. The ford ends ARE the best way but, the c-clip eliminator kits are a good option IF the are installed correctly. Most of the time, people take short cuts and this is what causes the leaking problems. Bad design of the bearing housings also doesn't help.

I personally chose the Mark Williams c-clip eliminators & axles because their design is better IMO.

Here's a couple of excerpts from a post I made earlier this year about these:

From what I understand, most c-clip eliminaors come with thin paper gaskets - the MW ones have No gaskets at all. It's all machined seats with O ring seals in all the right places...very nice design. The Bearing housing seals directly to the axle tube (not the backing plate) All in all, they look like they shouldn't leak. I did use some of the magical "good stuff" as some additional insurance

Make sure you shape the top of the bearing housing to clear the backing plate. You'll understand when you dry fit it - there is a spot on the backing plate that won't let the bearing houseing lay completely flat. Most people beat the plate flat, I personally feel it's better to alter the bearing housing a little. It's nothing drastic and a grinder or file makes quick work of it.
