I have a question regarding cam berak in and what oil to use. I do know that for engine break-in that you should use a regular oil, Not synthetic. What about the cam I 'm guessing that the same rule applys for cam break-in also? I usually use Mobil 1 so guess I'll switch to regular oil just for the cam break-in then drain it and go back to the synthetic, or should I run fresh regular oil for a while then switch back? I'm in the process of putting in my new cam (I it ever stops snowing!!!!) and am looking for any advice that you have to give for a succesful break-in and long life.

I will tell you what I did and go from there. I first put everything together with assembly lube. I primed the engine with a drill and rotated the engine while priming. I then filled with regular 10w-40 weight penzoil dino oil. I then started the engine and ran it for 20 - 25 minutes at 2500 rpm. Once this was done I changed the oil and drove the car about 3000 miles with 2 oil changes. I looked at the filters to make sure they were clean and then went to synthetic. I used stock valve springs that were lighter than stock due to their age. Once the miles were on it I installed the LT1 valve springs and off and running. All is great so far. Hope this helps some.

If anything just use dino oil for the break-in to save some money since you will(I hope) be changing the oil right after initial break-in

Use the GM EOS and and extra 1/2 qt of oil or so for a total 1 to 1 1/2
quarts overfilled for the break-in process
