I have a Comp Cams 212/212 roller (69-300-8). It is ground with 4 degrees of advance built in. Should I install it straight up which would effectively be 4degrees of advance or should I install it with 4 degrees retard which would effectively be straight up? Or another option?

Also, ported irons (stock valves), TA-49 (may go bigger), and a variety of intake/exhaust flow enhancements (V4, THDP,etc). Mostly street driven.

Thanks,
Tom

I kind of thought that from prior posts, but I didn't understand what straight up really meant. But I think I was looking at it too technically, and assume now that what people call straight up means to the intake centerline spec or with the timing set dots aligned. Which is really 4 degrees advanced comparing intake lobe to piston. As usual with me, too much theory, very little practice.

If you are degreeing the cam in, just make it come out to what the cam card says it should. If the card says the intake valve is opens to 0.006" @ 20 deg BTDC, then try to get it there. If you set it so the 0.006" opening point is at 16 deg BTDC, then you'll have retarded it 4 deg.

what about the cam sensor should that be considered when using the 1.45" mark with a cam that is made 4* advanced?
I understand the cam sensor is touchy for fueling the injectors
