Its opening day tomorrow at the track which is about 60 or so miles away from my house. I was hoping to have an extra set of rims to mount my slics, but i guess not. Will I be ok driving 70-80 mph on the highway to and from the track? I dont have tubes for the slics. I thought it would be ok but just want to check ?

I drive my GN with MT ET streets full time. Just don't get caught in the rain!!! It will be fine.

it is illegal to drive on non DOT tires on public roadways......"real" slicks are offroad only....ET Streets are DOT approved tires

(plus you will wear the slicks out very fast on the road)

No they're not the same, and you would be foolish to drive that far each way on a set of slicks.

I always wondered about even the DOT tires. I drive around with Hooiser Quick Time Pros on my car (they're "DOT Approved"). Hoosier says this about them:

NOTE: D.O.T. Labeled Hoosier Racing Tires meet Department of Transportation requirements for marking and performance only and are NOT INTENDED FOR HIGHWAY USE. It is unsafe to operate any Hoosier Racing Tire including DOT tires on public roads. The prohibited use of Hoosier Racing Tires on public roadways may result in loss of traction, unexpected loss of vehicle control, or sudden loss of tire pressure, resulting in a vehicle crash and possible injury or death.

MT ET Streets carry this less-dire warning:
WARNING: ET Street tires have passed D.O.T. requirements but have reduced tread depth and compounds designed for racing. Due to the reduced tread depth these tires should be used on dry pavement only and are not suitable for normal highway use!

I have driven about 6-7 miles to the track on ET Drags a few times but wouldn't drive that far...

Jeez, what a bunch of sissies!:D I drove for like a year on a set of ET drags. I wouldn't do it in the rain, but I can cruise 80 mph on the highway with them and no ill effects. Unless you're retarded and can't drive, I'd do it. Woody is right, they are illegal, and it does wear them out faster. I've been pulled over on ET drags (for a different reason), and the cops didn't even say anything. Go for it.

I put about 3000 miles on my last set of QTP's.

I plan on getting some dr's for those 100 mile trips to the track now.

I don't know about 60 miles on those slicks:eek:

Ya do it at your own risk of a cop spotting you.

But, seriously if they are only 9 wide then just go to a wrecker and get a standad set of gm rims. Thats what I did years ago, and still use em now. They will be cheap and probably lighter then your gn rims.

I always drove my t-regal with slicks no problems here and DOT doesnt mean sh-t if a cop wants to write you up he will, been there done that.
