My car keeps overheating.. or trying to.. not sure why.
1. thermostat is new 180* "heavy duty" stant brand. i decided to test it out today to see if it worked so i pulled the upper rad hose off and pointed it towards the ground. i kept the radiator filled so the engine had a fresh source of water.... so anyway the thermostat works.. the car would heat up and spit out hot water, suck down the fresh water and once the new water cooled the stat off, the water flow stopped. so it works.
2. radiator is a GTA aluminum rad that has never given me problems before
3. the car has new headgaskets (steel shim) and as far as i can tell they are not leaking because there are no bubbles in the coolant, no water in the oil, no water in the exhaust.. the coolant level is stable
4. the electric fan is and always has been a fiero/87 gn fan wired to run on HIGH all the time.
now.. considering those facts.. any idea why my $^#$^#$'ing car keeps trying to overheat. the only reason i know when its doing it (because im too poor to afford a freaking water temp gauge) is that the knock gauge starts lighting up one green light while cruising.. once it does this a few times if i tap the gas it'll knock to yellows.. so i know to just pull over and wait.
help!!
