4 of the bigger shoes and a line lock. the line lock will help a ton by not heating up those drums on the burnout before you launch.

Hi!
Your dad sounds like a pretty cool dude! I think you will have to go with a line lok, pretty easy to install. My almost stock car does fine with new shoes and S10 wheel cylinders. A transbrake modification is a surefire way to go, haven't been there yet but suspect some issues. Good luck!

If the brakes are BRAND new, thats the prob. Put a couple hundred miles on them and they'll get better. The pads need to be burnished and they all haveta be worn to the surface they are riding on.

Tighten the back brakes up until they drag a bit, and bleed them, bleed them, bleed them. Then after a little driving, tighten them again. You will get the pads to wear to the shape of the drum, and you will get more contact. I was able to hold enough to break the weld on one of my axle tubes. I couldn't hold 3#, after that, I could hold way up in the double digits.
