I just picked up my new car(85 GN).The guy said to me the just stopped running and doesn't have time to mess with it.(He lived in WI and had about 15 cars that where in his back yard)I got it home and it trys to turn over but it never starts.I charged the battery all night so the battery is good.I think it might be the starter or timing ??? What do you guys think? I want to get it running then take the whole car apart and rebuild it right.I have to wire wheel the frame(rusty).I hope the frame is not to bad,Thanks in advance for the help, everyone is a big help. Hi Rob,
We have to start somewhere. I guess it's cranking(engine turning over), right? The next step would be to see if the "check engine" light comes on when the key is turned on. It should come on,flutter somewhat, and then stay on brightly. This tells us the ecm ,or computer, is probably functioning. At the same time, you should hear a whooshing sound, as the fuel pump momentarily energizes, to pressurize the system. If you don't hear that, your pump is probably bad, which happens when a car sets, and gas stagnates.IF this all clicks,we'll get into it further. If you really want to get this one running, I can advise you. If you want to just start tearing it down,I'll be here in a couple of years when you get ready to start it. Let me know. Good luck with your project!
