Love mine.

Put it in the a pillar pod so it's right in front of your face.

I'm undecided about the gauge. Is anyone running the audible knock detector? As I understand it, it beeps when knock is detected so you don't need to watch it. One less thing to have to look at when things are happening quickly, plus the gauge doesn't match VDO, Autolite, or any other gauges I'm aware of.

Caspers does have an audible alarm also:

Haven't read anything about their knock gauges not being good quality yet. Or any alternatives.

But I saw in the Search that some people install a switch to activate the gauge after the engine is started.

audible..

I ran the gauge and then purchased the audible to avoid having to look at the gauge. I used the black face gauge to match the vdo gauges at the time, now I am using the phantom's w/the audible and don't need the gauge itself. Caspers uses a multiple of combinations to try to match your gauge choice.

Cool, thanks. I've only seen one style of Caspers gauge. I'm leaning towards the audible alert.

I can see the purpose of having both. With both, you can cross-check them to see if they agree. Sort of like having supporting instruments in an aircraft.

Then I read about a switch to activate it once the engine is running.

I don't mean to step on anyones toes here, but I don't really like that windshield pillar/gauge setup. But then again,as some have mentioned, that gauge HAS to be close to line of sight.

The old fashioned method of mounting it on the column won't work for me,either. I use a column lock.

No bad reviews on the Casper knock gauge, yet. So it looks like a winner.

My guess is I'll be putting it in the console pod,and possibly clipping the audible to the drivers side visor. Next is to see if they both can be wired together.

...just doing my homework here before I buy. Winter projects, you know.

i have the audible under the dash. and the caspers in the top spot of my dual pod on the a-pillar. and its perfect there. you dont really have to look at it while driving because its in your peripheral. theres a green light that lets you know its on and you WILL notice if any of the other lights light up. (which is bad)

I don't think you will find anything about any of Caspers stuff not being good quality. John makes the best stuff money can buy and has been a great supporter of our hobby. I tried to get him interested in making some knock gauges for other vehicles that have nothing, the market would be wide open, but I guess he was not interested.

Some have had to install a switch because at engine start up the gauge will detect knock due to the starter engaging on the flywheel, I suppose the gauge has not fully "started up" at that time or something and will not reset when the engine is running...the switch simply lets you turn the gauge off and back on to reset it that one time...then later if it detects knock, it resets fine without the switch...its only at startup you have to cycle it.
My GN required the switch, the TTA did not, so I guess it depends on where the stars are alligned when you install it :)

Mines in the A-pillar, but the "green" light showing its operational can be annoying at night, so I put black electrical tape over it, covering it just enough where a "halo" of it is still visible, so when the "knock" lights come on, they are very noticable and not confused with the "green on" light in my peripheral vision.

I've ran both the gauge and the audible one. I much prefer the audible.

I run the audible under the dash and the gauge on the pillar. I also have a scanmaster for recall. For some reason they don't always match up? I don't get knock often anymore but when I did there would be times that the caspers gauge would show knock but there would be no beep. And vice versa.

I have one in my GN. Been there since I bought it, installed by the previous owner. Also running a SM2.2 and PowerLogger. Sometimes it'll light up and the SM wont. It actually weird. Normally it never moves, unless the car really really spins the tires. I bought a new one to match my gauges.

yeah mine does the same thing. It will come on in the red and the scan master doesn't say there is any knock, so i think i'm going to remove my casper knock guage. Makes me worry to much and then makes me worry that the SM isn't working hmmm idk.

I believe it's because the alarm doesn't sound off until moderate knock as opposed to the gauge which shows anything it deems knock. I also use a Scanmaster as well as a wideband in conjunction. I've also had the alarm go off but no KR shown on the Scanmaster.

I can't recall anytime that I noticed the Caspers gauge reading some knock that it didn't show some amount of knock on the Direct Scan, usually less than a degree will show as 1 or 2 lights on the gauge. It takes about 3-4 degrees for the gauge to be into the red.

X2! I pulled mine out for just that reason. I have the Scanmaster 2.2 to watch and since the Gauge only reads "raw data" I think it was a false Knock sensor. Was very high quality though, like all of John Spina's stuff.

Remember the gauge is responding to different inputs than scanmaster. It responds to knock counts. Scanmaster is responding to Knock retard or actually what the ecm is doing about knock.

I have been getting the last RED light on my caspers lately but nothing on the SM. I think it's false. I stayed in it just to see what it would do. It stayed full red for quite some time but nothing on the SM. I was spinning when this happened. If I roll into it... nothing.

There real sensative..
