Right now my my exhaust is welded to my down pipe. I think I may need a cat to pass emmisons, but I want to put a test pipe on right after that. Im just woundering do I have to worry about what size cat the muffler shop puts on? Will the test pipe just fit where the cat was?

thanks
Mike

Mike,

It's good to see you're doing some mods. Get a free flowing cat, honeycomb style. Then go see Big brother at the emmission station and see if you pass. If you just have have a test-pipe you'll probably fail the visual. A test pipe made by a muffler will bolt right in. However if you get a good cat you won't need a test pipe. :D

The difference between a high flow cat and no cat is negliable.

I register my car in a county my relative lives in so I don't have to do emissions :D Mike, where are you in Northern VA? My friend knows a couple places where the guy sleeps on the job and could care less that you have a test pipe...

best bet is to do what MistaScott says and find someone who "sleeps on the job" or just buy some stolen inspection stickers, it will be cheaper than buying a cat and then just taking it off. Here in PA i just drive into north philly once a year and pay $50 for stolen stickers, a lot cheaper than putting a cat on and getting an emissions chip every year, and much less hassle.

Yes i do the same thing i have somebody that loves my car so he does me a favor and passes me with somebody elses car on the machine. i only pay 35 bucks which is the reg. price for a legal car :D

Sorry to hijack your thread. IMHO I would not even discuss "clean piping" (that is that term used by smog check regulatory agencies for using another vehicle to pass your vehicle) on a public forum. You don't know who's looking. In CA, this has caused many smog check technicians their livelyhoods. Jus my 0.02. If you want to hear a story, email me in private.

I dont mind buying the cat. For some reason Im one of the unlucky guys that allways get cought. I guess I will get the cat installed and go from there.

thanks
Mike
