I was wondering wht some of you guy's have found to be the
cause of main bearings to go.

Could it be:
too tight tolerance
flex in the crank
dirt or gasket material.

The reason for this thread is a have a few friends with fast cars.

Some cars in the nines some in the eights. They are not buicks all small blocks but do not seem to have this type of problem like the buicks have .

Your input would be much appreciated!

THnks all:confused:

The #1 cause is clearances. double or even triple check!
#2 improper lube or initial prime before breakin.
#3 contamination on or to bearing during assembly. Keep clean!
#4 improper bolt torque on caps.

Pay attention to clearences as it is one of the most important factor. Measure twice install once..

My opinion only..

youre welcome. anytime.
im starting to think these engines should velcroed in for easier access

Small Block Chevy's are much more forgiving of engine tolerances! On the other hand, these 3.8 turbo motors need to be very precise! Loose motors cause false knock and HP loss. Too tight causes mega trouble per the heat/boost expansion factors. Everything NC87GN is valid!

However, if you're trying to compete w/ your buddies running 8's and 9's, you'd better just plan on dropping about $30k and let a professional engine builder worry about your tolerances!
This of course is assuming you're talking about 8's and 9's in the 1/4 mile, and not the 1/8th...?;)
