So I can plan my day tomorrow, what all needs to be removed to replace a water pump on a TR?

Thanks

I'm in the process of doing mine....

Must remove:

1. Lower rad hose
2. IC...unless your patient....but it is much, much easier with it out of the way
3. up-pipe, MAF pipe
4. Belt

Unless you damage something in the process, that is all it takes...at least for mine :)

Thanks. Did you have to remove the intercooler to get to the water pump?

yeah...I read your post wrong the first time....it should answer the question correctly now ;)

There's a set of instructions I put together which Ken posted on gnttype.org so you might check over there.

It ended up being quite a chore, but it is done now. It did give me an excuse to finally get a good air compressor and impact wrench. My pulley was put on by a 500 pound gorilla. The air ratchet made quick work reassembling things, though!

I did have to take the fan out to get enough clearance to get the pulley off with the impact wrench, but it wasn't a big deal.

Thanks

do you HAVE to use an impact gun since i dont have access to one and was going to do my water pump on tuesday!

and where is the coolant temp sensor on these cars... i think mine is bad

No, you don't have to use an impact or air tools. I'd say it's better not to. Risk breaking water pump bolts. It's a pretty simple job. Best to remove the intercooler. Makes for easy access. ;)

alrighty...
and what is the best way to clean out the intercooler... i read on gnttype to use carb cleaner a few times and then rinse out...

can you then install the intercooler when it is wet or wait for it to dry?

I'd buy a gallon of mineral spirits at Walmart. Costs like $2.00. Poor in a quart or less and shake it up and drain it. You could do it before you tackle the waterpump and by the time your done, you can just install the IC.

mineral spirits?
prefer that over a carb cleaner??

just wondering why and what not.. i know the price seems great

ill have to take your word for it and give it a try;)
