Hi. I just woke up my 1987 GN with 92k miles today and drove it. The last time it was on the road was last October. After about 20 miles, the check engine came on. I ran the code reader and it came out as "45". I checked gnttype on the web site, but they no longer there?? When I opened the hood, I can smell gas vapor coming out of the container. I don't remember if I ever smell it before?? Also, when I started the engine (engine is warm already), it would race to 2,000 rpm for about 20 seconds then it went back to normal around 900-1000 rpm. Any idea what went wrong with my car? Bad gas? Sticky TPS? The "45" code probably will answer it right away?

Maybe GN is mad at me for not giving my attention to it for a while. My family kept me busy pretty well for the last many months. At least it was kept in my garage where it is dry and clean. Oh well.

Thanks for your help,
Jim

Thanks very much for the web site address! It is relieved that it is still existing! What happened to GN/TType web site?

Anyway, are you suggesting that I should let it run a little longer and 02 will get back to normal due to that it had been sitting for a long time? An old gas (probably 9 months old gas) would trigger the 02 sensor? It has about 3/4 full of gas in the tank. Long time to get rid of it!!

engine runs high idle

I gave my GN a good ride for about 20 miles gently and easy on gas... no 'check engine' warning light and it no longer smell gas out of the container. I am glad that it is okay now.

Only one thing is still bothering me. When I shut it off for about 2 minutes then started it up, the engine runs normal at 900-950 rpm. When I shut it off and leave it for about 15 minutes, and restarted it, the engine raced to 2,000 rpm for about 30 seconds then it finally go down to normal 900-950 rpm. Why is that?

Please help.

Thanks,
Jim
