Just wanted to share a little information with everyone. I have installed several shift kits in my 87 GN over the years. First one was a Fairbanks, could not tell a difference. Second was the new version Transgo, it just plain sucked. Further more when I was ready to remove the Transgo kit I had to buy a new valve body as a result of drilling holes in the valve body from Transgo recommendations. Next I went with a shift kit from Mike Kurtz at Century Automotive. This was an old Transgo kit that he added some extra mods to. This worked the best out of the previous that I had tried but still was not right. I had a 2-3 bind up at light throttle, and a 2-3 flair at WOT. The car would shift hard at light throttle but as soon as I stepped into a little bit of boost it would not shift firm. Also when slowing down as the car down shifted it would get a bad clonk. I just sort of put up with this. Well several years later I decided to bump the horsepower up a bit. I didn’t trust the trans that I had built so I decided to let a professional do it; I took it to Mike Kurtz. When I got it back from Kurtz, it shifted worse then it did before I took it to him. Took it back and he replaced the Valve Body. This helped but still was not right. I then went into it myself and tighten up the direct clutch pack. This helped a lot but still was not right. Next I tore back into it again and installed the PTS Extreme billet forward drum, PTS Wide band and Billet large servo. The trans did a little better but still had the same problems. I then contacted Chris @ CK Performance, he sent me a stock plate, heavy 1-2 accumulator spring, heavy line bias spring and a blocked off center support bolt. To his recommendations I did every thing that he suggested including dual feeding the direct clutches. I put every thing back together and wholly sh!t what a difference this made. It would now shift hard into 3rd at WOT and don’t get that terrible conk when down shifting. After doing this I still was getting a bid up at light throttle on the 2-3 shift, so Chirs then had me remove the PTS billet servo and install the stock one. This made a big difference and the car even shifts into second better with the stock servo (firmer). I now was only getting a very slight hint of bind up so Chris then had me restrict the Direct Clutch feed hole and open up the 3rd acc hole some. Bingo this fixed it. This thing has never shifted this good!!! It shifts with a light bump when cruising; when I step into about 5-6 psi of boost it chirps the tires on the 1-2 shift and hits the 2-3 shift very firmly. The 2-3 WOT flair is gone and the bind up at light throttle is gone; even when I set the car up in race trim with slicks and high boost making approx 600 HP it still shifts firm. (Tire chirping shifts) Chris really knows his stuff!!!!!!! Thanks a lot Chris.

:D :)

wow. just ordered a kit for my GS with a 200R4, and one of the kits for the Ttype. Cant wait to see how it does, sounds like it will be really nice. His wife knows alot about em as well, she took my order and was very helpful.

I'm Jealous!:( Haven't had a good trans in my car since I've owned it (91) Tried and tried and tried just no one can seem to get em to shift hard behind big power.

thanks .its nice to know that most of the late night research and development,hair pulling,and hundred and one road tests have a positive effect in the real world of automatic transmissions,............im glad we have been able to help and provide quality products and information to the buick world,along with the other vendors/tech nuts at turbo buick.com www.ckperformance.com

kit includes anew 1/2 accumulator spring ,line bias spring ,accumulator valve spring,pressure regulator spring,.500 tv boost valve ,.294 int/rev boost valve,new gm 8657309 seperator plate modified,2 v body gaskets ,acc housing gasket,ANDFINE TUNED SHIFTS THAT WORK GREAT AT ALL THROTTLE ANGLES.WWW.CKPERFORMANCE.COM our other kits for non brf valve bodys include a hi performance servo and governor assembly.

Picture = 1000 words

When I get time I'll look at my ASTG versus your parts descriptions--a picture would still be nice. I looked at your website, not much information there. Is that you in the center image?

sorry the website is not informative enough for you .the site is constantly being updated so if you check it periodically you will find new additions.i think your idea is good as far as comparing what is in it however if you read the build sheets you may see that the main focus of the kit is for the 90 degree travel of the throttle blade from closed to wide open we have furnished a steady unbiased line rise control system ,furnished additional oil to problemed areas for reduced slippage,increased oil flow to friction elements ,increased line pressure,increased clutch clamping forces ,reduce tv valve sticking,2/3 cutloose,slipping ,and flaring,soft full throttle shifts ,firmer manual 1/2 shift ,increased line pressure in reverse,amongst other things.www.ckperformance .com the kit is definately worth a thousand words as you can see from the response.

thanks for the tip .it looks like im 43 lbs over the limit.as far as being happy ,its been ruff since i lost my father on jan 31 1991 in athens greece,but my wife and daughter alexandra anastasia kokkonis have kind of made up for that hollow spot dad left behind. sagapo patera mou.eisai pantote sto mialo mou . kalo paska kali anastasi.www.ckperformance.com

mine still hasnt arrived but if it gets here today, its going in as soon as i get a chance, ill let ya know.

thanks again

Its here! looks great, very simple too. I will be installing them soon, and have only 1 question regarding the shift kits. My Ttype shifts firmly from 1-2 and barks the tires easily, and 2-3 is not slipping or lagging and is firm at part throttle but full throttle it is smooth but quick, cant feel a firm quick shift. I was just wondering if the stock transmissions bark the tires, because if not, then it may have a shift kit already and if it does, how will i be able to tell? any little extra holes or springs or less balls than it should have that i should look for? IF it has been worked on inside, should i continue to install this shift kit or wait and figure out what kit was in it and what may be missing or changed. thanks, just wanna make sure i do this right.

Chris,

I've been hearing alot off good things about you. I might just have to give your shop a visit one day. I don't think there's anything wrong with my tranny but there's always room for improvement. Just wondering if you work on rear ends also. Anyway keep up the good work.:)
