are coil packs the same from 84-87? Are they all backwards compatible? I know the ignition modules are different but are the coils basically the same?

Thanks,

Rob

They are not the same. The 84-85 coilpacks are larger in size.

Hi,
Well, if Jerryl says they are bigger, they must be. Looks like the same old motorola unit to me.....
By the way, Jerryl, did you get that transmission in yet?

Just looked at an old Postons catalog. Their catalog notes that the coil pack for the 84-85 is no longer available, and they recommend upgrading to the later module, so you can use the later coil pack. Since the early module costs much more than the later module, it makes sense and cents to do the switch.

Im guessing the whole coil won't die all at once, just some of the coils. Im starting to lean toward the ignition module. The module is putting out voltage to the crank and can sensors so maybe the module it working fine? I'd hate to buy a 84-85 module and then have the coil pack crap out down the road, lol.

Rob,
Are you not getting spark or did I miss the reason for the original question?
