Coilpack bracket question

Bought an 86 T-Type in pieces and putting it back.
The coilpack bracket is giving me trouble.
The rear support is intact and looks fine.
The front 2 tabs on the bracket appear to bolt to the fuel rail bosses, but the rail was secured with bolts and the bracket sits too high. I removed the bolts and took these pics.

What is supposed to go here? Studs?
All the hardware was supposed to be included with the car, but I have a feeling some things are missing.

There are supposed to be studs that have, "I think" Standard threads going into the intake, with 13 mm hex head, and metric thread on top of that for securing the coilpack bracket.
 
the threads in the intake are metric, 8x1.25mm.
so maybe the coil bracket threads are standard.
that's cool, i can just find a long metric bolt and lop the head off.

my repair manual doesn't have detailed drawings like that.

i do have that support piece, #14.
you can just make it out in the one picture.

it just seems that there is much space between the intake mounting bosses and bracket #12.
i feel like if i tighten it down it will touch the fuel rail.

maybe thats ok?

Credit goes to fellow board member UNGN, who generously hosts that link.... Let me go out in the garage and see what's filling that space between the intake and bracket... I still think you are missing something.... bracket shouldn't be lodging against the fuel rail.... give me a few....
 
The original stud spaces the bracket away from the fuel rail. You could probablly cut the head off the proper bolt then use a nut between the bracket and fuel rail, then another nut on top of the bracket.

i dug around in the trunk of the car and found some studs that work.
i don't know if they are the correct ones, but they work.

the coilpack snugs down near the fuel rail but clears.
looks like i'm good.

can't wait to get this thing running.

I made some aluminum shims for mine. I got some great clearance away from the fuel rail. I did make sure I had a good ground wire to the coil bracket.
 
thats them takes a 10mm wrench

the nut that goes on after the bracket was m8 1.25 thread (takes 15mm wrench) with a star washer attached
 
i got the wrong nuts then.
mine are 8x1.25mm but the head is 13mm.
they are the flange heads that don't require a washer, but i don't think they will back off.
 
those 13mm flange head are used throughout the car

the were used on the driver header studs to hold the rear alternator and a/c brackets
the oil tube on driverside center top header stud
the egr solenoid stud in intake
the egr valve stud for the bracket
the driverside intercooler bracket mounting at both ends
the passenger intercooler bracket at engine
the studs at the plenum for the pcv hard lines and the throttle bracket
and even on the bumpers supports and the bumper to absorbers mounts

the throttle body used two similar nuts as but they are silver finish

but not on the coilpack , they'll fit but not correct its not about them backing off its to establish good ground connection , if you had looked at the 3 small nuts at the underside of the coilpack bracket that hold the coil pack they are star washered as well for the same reason i mentioned
seeing as how the piant is already scratched having a good a ground shouldn't be a problem , but when new the brackets were fresh painted those star washers when torqued would cut into the paint finish and grab clean metal
 
that's funny, i've been messing with cars(mainly vw's and Fords) for over 20 years now.
just the other day someone on the Vanagon list(don't laugh) was talking about star washers helping complete the ground circuit for the instrument cluster. First I had ever heard of it.

Coincidence hearing about it again today.

Just kidding.... just wanted to say for the record, I went out and took a couple pics, and by the time I got back in, you guys had this thing covered....

Hey, I bet a Vanagon w/a rear-mounted LC2 would light up a few fahrvergnugen-folks!! Would be a beeeIItch to plumb a fmic, though!! :tongue:
 
I also have a rabbit pickup.
My buick buddy wants to put a TR motor in the bed attached to a Toronado transaxle driving the rear wheels.

Imagine a turbo v6 in a 1800lb vehicle...

But I suppose we are getting off topic.
