OK, I was reading a thread yesterday and someone mentioned HOT knock..... What is the differance between Hot knock and COLD knock?

Thanks Again, Mike

Turbo motor that is heat soaked will be more proned to knock than a cool motor.

i.e. Ever noticed how even a n/a motor will knock when it is super hot.

Ok, I think I'm still confused... So the motor will knock if it's heat soaked??

Why would it knock when it's cold??

Sorry, Just confused:confused:

Mike

Maybe they are talking about knock resulting from a "hot" spot of carbon in the cylinder that causes some of the mixture to detonate before the flame front reaches it.

Knock can be caused by excessive heat (e.g. the reason we use intercoolers and 160* thermostats) or not enough fuel. Either one will cause the mixture to burn before the spark plug-induced flame front reaches it.

Thanks for the reply. But I think that the article was discussing Rod Knock.... Hot opposed to cold....

Maybe I just need a few days off:D

Then it is refering to engine temperature. Hot rod knock is in closed loop operating temp and cold rod knock is at startup.
