I have my boost set for 15 PSI on pump gas...Last night I drove it in the cold weather and the boost shot up to 23 pounds...whats up with that? When it's hot, it stays at 15 psi. Is this normal, do i have to adjust boost for temperature?

No, it should not spike like that. Check the boost control hoses to be sure there's no cracks or leaks. Actuator or solenoid could be bad too.

 8#'s of boost increase  that seems like alot of jump IMO. check vaccume lines, wastegate puck, but first turn it down for the pump gas OTHERWISE KABOOM!!!

Thanks, will do...but why would this only happen when its cold?

Does it do this every time it gets cold or just last night? It was pretty cold last weekend.

If you can't determine that it is a hose, then take a new hose and hook it up tuner style direct from the turbo to the actuator. Should make ~11 lbs.

Like mentioned bfore, that should not happen, at least that bad. In my car in cold weather boost will be 2 lbs higher at the most. Check all your lines for damage.

Do you have an aftermarket boost gauge? Does boost spike then return to 15# or does it stay rock solid at 23#?

I do have an aftermarket boost gauge...Boost stays at 21- 23 pounds depending how cold it is...last weekend it did the same thing, but it only went to 20 psi...it wasnt as cold..I let off after a couple sec when i determined it was gonna stay there and not drop back to 15....but still something is wrong, im gonna check everything tomm. probly, its pouring rain now...but thanks alot for ur input..I am taking the car to Cal Hartlines place on thursday to install the SMC kit, If I can't fix it, im sure he can.

You Florida guys are SO silly. Talking about "Cold weather"

Whats your definition of cold weather? 50 degrees? In Miami, they think 60 is cold.

Up here it would be about 15 degrees with a windchill of about 8. Even colder further north of here. You guys dont know what cold means. Bleh!

Imagine your TR's in that kinda crisp air. With all this snow and ice on the ground around here, its not a safe bet though. Just poking fun. ;)

tru tru...yea it was 42 in gainseville..thats cold enough for me... Hey I a question then...it's obvious our cars run better in the cold weather, but would they run better in 10 degrees compared to 40 degrees...is there ever a time when too cold is bad? I'm just curious.

I would think no, so long as the engine itself was warmed up to proper operating temp. But if the air got cold enough, and dense enough, it might be easier for knock to become a problem. I'm not sure about that one. Maybe someone who's had more experience with these cars in brutally cold weather might know.

I cant run the GN now if the temp is below 40 anyway. I'm afraid to at the moment, because it has an oil pan full of 20w-50 castrol syntec blend. That stuff is like jelly when its cold. Too hard on the motor and oil pump when its that cold. I should have put 10w-40 in it when I last changed the oil, but I wasnt thinking properly I guess.

I was thinking 15w-50 Mobil 1 synthetic. How would that hold up in the cold?

Only thing is.. Mobil 1 is so damn expensive. (Almost $5 a quart) Although fully synthetic will last a little longer then regular oil.

HAHA, we run them in the winter instead of putting them away. Just gotta make sure the AC works when spring rolls around.

Yeah, but you hoes dont get snow and ice in the winter. Would you let your cars get beat up riding around in the salted roads and snow & ice? Hell no! And truthfully, I see quite a few riding around in the winter anyway. At least recently. I spot them in parking lots every now and then, and cruising by on the road. Last winter, I always passed the same '86 GN on I-95 on my way to class every morning, going the opposite direction.

I'll be livin in Florida someday. Most likely somewhere central, but maybe in the Jax area. I love Jacksonville. Gorgeous city. I cant wait, because I'll be able to play with the car all year round with no bad weather. Your "cold" temperatures down there are my "short-sleeve" temps here. :p :D

And no one even argue about whos summer is worse. No doubt down south is nice and hot. But its DEFINITELY not rare that we see some triple digit temps up here in the summer.
