It seems to me that most insurance companies are not going to pay the true value on our cars if they are involved in a wreak. To them, our cars are basically nothing more than your average rusted out 87 Regal that would be considered a total loss with a dented fender. It seems in most cases it is a waste of money to carry full coverage. Because of this I have started to consider collectors insurance. Have any of you guys looked into this or have collector's insurance already on your rides? Any companies that you might suggest? Having as much time and money invested in my car as I do it would be a shame to lose it.

Look at Grundys insurance. I believe the site is Grundys.com. I have my GN insured with them. You set an agreed upon value. There are limitations on driving so its not for a daily driver. I have never had to make a claim but I know others who have without problems. Search Grundy here as this has been discussed before. HTH

You can get your car appraised I believe ... that will make sure your insurance company knows exactly how much your car is worth.

I have agreed values on both of my cars through Great American Insurance Group 513/369-5000. There are limitations, as with all policies, but they have been very accomodating raising the values each year without having a true appraisal done.

I have American Collectors Insurance. I pay like 280.00 a year for full coverage, 15K agreed value insurance with no deduct. My regular insurer,(State Farm) would only insure it for like 5,000. HOWEVER, I am limited to 2500 miles a year....but thats OK my GN stays in the garage most of the time;)

fyi-- with grundy *IN PHILADELPHIA* I pay $240 a year with 15k miles too..

Thanks for the info. I normally don't exceed 8000 miles a year. I'll probably check with Grundy and a few other companies. My car is mainly a weekend cruiser and occcasional grocery getter with a few dragstrip visits here and there. I assume the coverage doesn't apply to any offroad/track activity.

Glad to see that the insurance is not outrageous. I pay about $107 a year for full coverage/ 0 deductable/no milage limits/ agreed value 14K on the RoadRunner. So its about $150 more a year it seems and I'd drive a GN a lot more than the RR.

Yeah, there is a provision in most policies that says something about racing or using the car for competetion isn't covered.

Note grocery getting was not covered by Grundy when I spoke to several of their reps about 6 months ago (and about a year and a half before that). Ask very specific questions when inquiring about a policy-- "If I were in a collision in a grocery store (home depot, etc...) parking lot while doing an errand, would I be covered and how would the claim be handled?"

'grocery getting' is a no no with any classic car insurance company.. Thats why its so cheap.

I just called grundy sounds great plus the girl sounded cute ;) and they said unlimted but like if you want to go out to eat or a pleasure cruise no grocery getting. for 18,000 i was quoted 280 a year cant beat that with a stick.

No grocery getting, huh? Kinda hate to let that big trunk go to waste. I'll ask about that when I call.

Hey is this insurance just good on GN's or do these places also insure WE4's and or T-Types. I know they do GN(i asked) but with my finances its more like a WE4 or a T-Type is going to be what I end up with so do they also insure these at reasonable rates? Anyone know?

Great I just wanted to check cause I did not want to pay daily driver rates for a weekend cruiser and be underinsured also in case of a total loss. I could se paying 10 grand for a T-Type and then having the insurance look it up and saying its worth 1,500 or somehting :).
