I read somewhere that a detailing tip on a black car was to sprinkle corn starch on it. Takes out the swirl marks in the black paint and stuff. Has anyone ever tried or heard of this? Please tell your experiences.
Years ago, when we still "simonized" our cars, the Simonize wax was very hard to work with or remove. I was told to use corn starch to remove it. I never used it though. Just get yourself some 3M Imperial hand glaze to remove swirl marks and/or wax your car a lot.
I use corn starch to remove(soak up?) excess glaze. It sometimes is more of a hassle to clean up but I would only use it as a last resort. I agree with John, with all of the excellent products out there you dont need to use an "old school" approach to remove swirl marks.
It works well and I have done it just to remove wax build up, the air hose comes in handy cause the dust goes everywhere, but this also pulls impurities and contaminates and makes the car shine.
Use a good wax with teflon in it. Mother's and Meguir's have an excellent cleaner wax with teflon in it. I used to run a detail shop. 3M hand glaze works real well, but doesn't last as long as the teflons.
