I have a rebuilt longblock with bolts on the mains- i want to change the bolts to arp studs for more strength - what would be the proper proceedure for installation of the studs?

Make certain the shorter studs go in the rear main holes. My machinist didn't do that, and my oil pan didn't fit. Took a couple minutes to realize what was going on. ;)

Yup. Take it to a GOOD shop and have them line hone it with the studs. If you're going to go this route, might as well spend the extra few bucks and get a main girdle. They will need to line hone it with the girdle and the studs installed because both of these things tweak the caps and webbing differently than stock. But the studs and girdle are well, well worth it.
