I took my TTA to the track last night. Staged it and I could get NO boost to build. Even tried using the E Brake, still none. It would only go to 1,800, 2,000 RPM's at the most. My car is stock with only a few mods, catback, testpipe, LT1 MAF and extender, K+N, and a thrasher 92 chip.

The scanmaster numbers was where they should have been. Shouldnt it stall higher than that? I cant understand why it didnt build at least 1 pound.

It would only best a 2.29 60' , 9.09 @ 80.4 1/8 mile. This doesnt sound right.:(

If your fuel pressure was 45 psi line off, you could have a preturbo exhaust leak.

It is 45 with the line off. How can I tell or check it? I dont have any exhaust leaks. Does the stall speed sound right?

sounds just like my first pass at the nationals

changed the spark plugs and 02 sensor

pull out a spark plug and see if its black from being rich as heck!

once the car has warmed up and the 02 numbers are lazy....

as in the numbers dont jump around from 100-850 and they hoover close to 330 or 400 and dont move...

you running race gas?

I had 3 gallons of 110 and 3 of 93. After I made my runs, the O2 reading would show 600's at idle, but as soon as I gave it any gas, it would drop to high 300's/low 400's

What was the DA? (density altitude). In other words, how was the air?

Are you running a Translator or Translator +? If the plus, did you try reducing your BASE timing to aid in spool up?
Did you make any Translator adjustments to compensate for track/weather conditions??

It's not stalling high enough, even for a stock D5 converter. I'm wondering if the combination of altitude and Thrasher 92 might have been interacting.
The Thrasher 92 has open loop idle. Well, sorta. It's actually open loop below a certain mph, not while at idle. So one's thing's for sure, you were running a lot fatter than you need to at the starting line just for that reason alone.
A solution would be to have a different brand of chip handy that you could try out when that happens, just to reduce the possible culprits.
The newer open loop idle chips (Extender for example) actually use the tps as the loop trigger. When you come off idle it moves from open to closed loop.

Thanks for the help. I got in late tonight from work, so ill check the O2 sensor and plugs tommorrow. Im going to check to make sure I have a D5 convertor also. Ill post what happens.

Well, I think my convertor is the problem. it is not a D5 as it doesnt have it or nothing stamped on it. I hope this is my problem!:(

I had a similar problem to this the first, and only, time i put mine on the track. I couldn't get more than 3 psi on the launch. After launching it would only go to 5 and stay there until the middle of second gear, then it would go to full boost. I only ran mid 14s to 15s all night because of this. Also found out I was letting off way before the finish line... mph was 20 mph lower at the 1/4 than the 1/8. The weird thing was when I took the slicks off and put my street tires back on, I lit the tires up when launching. Unfortunately, my car broke on this last pass. O2 sensor died while staging on this last pass too. Never figured whether it was the chip, O2 sensor, or vacuum leak. I'd check all three.

TTA right?

sure it doesnt say Z5 on it somewhere?

the TTA does not have a D5 convertor, i forget exactly what the number is but i know its a Z SOMETHING- the Z looks like a zorro Z and not a capital Z-

what color is the convertor?

Yes its a TTA and the convertor is Black. I thought they was a D5, or at least thats what everyone has told me. I dont recall seeing any letters on it though. Ill double check.

i was workig on a customers car and had a problem with spoolup and boost,But only with a race chip,(both chips were reds for 009s) the street chip spooled fast, but install the race schip and it woulddnt spool at the line and then made 5#s till second gear, tehn it shot up to 20. strange, but i figure it has to do with the chip controling boost through the factoy solenoid.

Great news!! I changed the O2 today and it spooled up to 3 pounds and the tires broke loose!! It even stalled up to around 2,300.

Now my next question. My convertor has alot of little 6's stamped on it. Is this right for my TTA? I cant find nothin else on it.

Thanks:D :) :p

aint it funny how such a small sensor can make your entire day go wrong??

change the plugs in it too, im sure they are fouled out-

6's on the convertor?? hmmmmm
i dont think thats right, maybe its a upgraded convertor?
2300rpm is good, with more boost, the convertor may stall higher-

sounds like your ready to hit the track again-

does your thrasher chip have that stall/stutter built into it? my friends GN has that chip and with the brake applied and at WOT it stutters about 2000 rpm and when he lets off the brake the car launches back hard. it only stutters with the brake aaplied tho.
