I think I posted something like this awhile ago but I was at a show and heard some new lines already this year! I think most of the time I like going to shows and cruises just to hear what people say and think about these cars. Some people are full of correct information.. while others don't have a clue! Here is some of the things I heard / ran into already this year...

-My GN has been called a Monte a dozen times already. The worse one was I was at a show with 5 other GN's. Guy walks up with flyers in his hand for another local show.. says.. hey we love black Monte's! Will you guys come to our show! I said keep walking sir! :D

-Guy said to me just yesterday.. (standing in front of my engine bay) My father had one of these cars.. bought it new.. he got the turbo V8 option on it though.. man did that car fly! I said.. hmmm turbo V8 option?! Well you should have kept that car is was one of one!

-Another guy walks up to my GN with his buddys.. Looks it over.. snickers and says.. this is a fake GN. His buddy says how do you know that.. he says.. everyone knows GN's came with chrome bumpers.. wow! I really had to hold my self back from just kicking that guys a$$ in front of his friend but I kept my cool and schooled the hell out of him! He walked away with his head down :D

-Another guy said.. Do you know about the GNX's. I said yea I know of them :D He said did you know they made another 547 of them just for the FBI!!?? He said.. I'd love to know where they are today! Now I was shocked he had the number correct but if there was another 547 of them hidden in some secret FBI cave I think that would have leaked out!

-Another good one was just at a show yesterday again.. guy pulls up with a older Porche.. says.. hey.. were you on State road the other night? I raced one of these.. man they are fast! I said did you win? He said yea I beat him by a few car lenghts.. I said well it was'nt me then

So post some of the crazy stuff people had said or commented about your car. I should have been a teacher because I love to school people when they don't have a clue :)

My car has the extra heavy duty A/C. That one was funny.

Mine came stock with roller rockers.

V8 option is one I have heard a dozen times.

I have been told the V8 cars were faster more times than I can count.

Yeah, when they start talking about the V8 option or twin turbo option GNs that's always classic. I had a guy try to convince me once that the hot-air 84-85s were quicker than the 86-87s. This guy was thoroughly convinced of this.

I like to go up to other GN owners and say "Nice Monte Carlo".
I then explain to them that I have one too.

I've heard the same old thing as you guys. Should have gotten the V8, etc.

The best one I ever heard was~

"Why did you paint your GN grey, put in the Regal interior, and take off the second turbocharger??"

I didn't feel like arguing so I just told him I like being different

oh man, I think I've heard all of those at one time or another.

I'm not a big fan of gatherings or car shows precisely because people are so full of ****. You cant ask half the people there about their car and get a correct answer.

I always know im dealing with a winner when we turn to quarter mile times and they have no concept of them like when I say my car runs mid 11s and they act like that isnt anything special.

Not at a car show, but I had an incident last night pulling into the main gate of my buddies base.

Guard was some young hillbilly, stops me, and then leans over to look inside of my car at my gauges, tach, etc and then asks

"All them tachometers?"

I almost laughed and said

"no, thats a boost gauge, thats an oxygen sensor gauge, thats an exhaust gas temp gauge, thats an ecm data display (scanmaster)"

he leans back and kinda looks at me like I'm retarded and says

"Ya need all that for this car?"

my reply

"Uh... Yeah, I do."

Him
"whutchu got under tha hood"

me
"3.8L turbocharged v6"

him, funny face

"have a good one"

I find it's always somebody's cousin, buddy or "dude at work" that had one "custom ordered with a Corvette 5-speed"

I took my white limited with chrome trim and torque thrust II's out to a car show/ fund raiser yesterday, then a few hours later went to a local car cruise....

"So why are the non black cars so much slower then the black grand nationals?"

My answer was.... All 86-87 turbo charged regals have the same exact engine transmission and rearend, there is no difference between the grand national drivetrain and a t-type drivetrain or a turbo T drivetrain....The reason this car is white is someone ordered a 87 regal with the LC2 turbo option and a limited package with the comfy seats.

His reply "So why are the 87s faster"
THIS WAS A G BODY OWNER!!!

He really liked my 16x8 TTII's and i let him know i could get him 4 for $725.00 shipped

At the cruise a guy and his wife walked up to my white car and about flipped out...He knew my white car was 100% original paint and was floored when he found the 1 of 1 white grand national
To top it all off, i had the display card in the windshield from early that days previous car show, it read 1987 TURBO REGAL LIMITED 1 OF 1035 PRODUCED

100% of the spectators were egar to see the late 80s musclecars, i was astonished by the amounts of people asking so many questions...
Nice group of people

I told this one a while back, but this guy and his son were looking at my car and his son said, "Man, that's a nice Monte Carlo.". We've all heard that one. But then his Dad said, "That's not a Monte Carlo! It's a Grand Am!". I guess that was as close as he could remember.
I had another guy come to my house and he is a real car guy. He has a '46 Ford he restored, etc. He asked me was I still driving my Grand Am.

I took my car to my nephews auto teck class for open house for him. He wanted to show off my car and have some bragging rights with his buddys. I herd everything from " nice Monte" to " this isn't factory ". Well the night was going pretty well, dispite the coments, when a 16 or 17 year old walked up to the car, acting like he knew everything with his buds, and said " this is an after market turbo. I've seen these on the Imports running around here" I let him ramble on and when he was done I replied, " I don't know where you get your info from BUT , this car came factory built with this turbo on it. It is also the factory six in it. If you would have takin time to look at the hood liner, you would have seen it says turbo charged on it.When this car was built in 86 it was the fastest production car of its time. If you have seen this turbo here on an import, they must have gotten it out of a junk yard off one of these cars or its cuisine the T Type. Please bring one of your import friends down here and I'll show him a real car!" Well he must not have liked my answer, because he turned away in a huff and stomped out the door of the shop. Didn't see him for the rest of the night. But before I left that night, I pulled the car out of the shop( which is in the back of the building , and a bunch of other kids standing around a Honda ) and well you know, I had to! The shop teachers , my nephew, and his friends watched me rip the tires off and left a 300 ft. patch in the back of the school. I lost sight of everyone cause of the smoke but my nephew told me his teachers were laughing and cheering my on, and the kids at the Honda just stood there with there mouths to the ground! I guess I proved my point to them. My nephew still has bragging rights in class cause the patch is still there after 4 months for all to see.

The one I hear ALOT is: " a grand national, these came supercharged from the factory" . I also hear the V8 turbocharged one alot too.

I've probably heard all these comments in the 20 years or so i've been going to cruise nights or car shows. Thats why I really don't have an interest in going to many anymore. All these lawn chair experts telling ya how fast there big block yada yada goes in the 1/4 mile when they never have even been to the track. Most of these show queens can't even run a 14 second 1/4 mile. Plus it gets REAL boring seeing the same cars at EVERY cruise night, and the owners talking the same sh*t. I'd much prefer having some fun at the track. Show chrome and fuzzy dice won't help you there.

i've heard most of them but my favorite one was " i should have gotten the 88 instead of the 87"

and why don't you buy the one with the v-8 in it

i give-up

this is my biggest problem with owning one of these cars

THE MYTHS! I have heard them all. When I raced my brothers 350 powered regal with my first grandnational & blew it away he saw the turbo & said your cheating. I said what? Did I buy the last turbo ever created? You have a big cam, .60 over, 850 holley 4 barrel, etc. That crap didnt come stock. So run what ya brung. I pulled busses on it by the way.

I love the ceramic turbo myth. My buddy has a fully ceramic turbo in his gnx. Everyone sees the turbo t or t type & thinks they are slower cause they are not black. You tell them the t's are lighter & make the same power & stock for stock are quicker & they look at you like duh, like huh, huh, etc.

My other favorite is I had just had my gn wheels refinished & buffed/wetsanded, waxed my paint & this guy I worked with had a friend come up to my work in a 1980 regal with a yellow paint job with black racing stripes & ss badges on it arguing with me up & down I customized my gn the way it was with grandnational badges & chrome wheels with matching centercaps. He had the nerve to say that the yellow 80 regal came the way it did. hell it had oldsmobile interior  But I was wrong & he was right.

I like when I take my car to anywhere & someones buddy has a special edition grandnational. I now own a 87 T & it has the black out grill, headlight bezels, taillights, but with chrome bumpers & chrome markers. People say oh not quite a grandnational.

Last sat night I was at the sonic & my car is cammed, ported heads, single shot exhaust pretty loud. Guy comes up & says oh its not a gn so its not fast. I said yeah I couldnt afford the black paint to make it fast. I just left shaking my head & now I see that stupidity is not a handicap.

The tta guys always have to deal with the why didnt you leave the v8 in it crap. Hell Jd blew a head gasket & coasted to a 14.0@70 mph & another friend of mine at WOT on drag radials, intake, exhaust, etc. only went 14.9 in his tpi 350 92 firebird. But you cant make people see it. They will always say some crap that is rediculous.

AMEN

Another board member and I took our cars (87 GN-his--85 T-mine) on a carshow/cruise and I heard a guy explain to his kid that the GN had a supercharger and my T only had a turbo, and that is the difference besides paint. I wanted to pull him over and say "LOOK! Dumbass!"

I don't even bother anymore. I just let them ramble on, agree with them and just walk away laughing & shaking my head. They're just not worth my time.

At a recent car show, I had an older gentleman tell me that GN's came with chrome under the hood from the factory. I was like  & proceeded to explain that I wasn't aware of any production car came with chrome standard.
