Ok, doing my first starter swapout, cannot seem to get to the two bolts on the passenger side of the crossover pipe, am i going at this by the wrong angle? How did you all do it? By going over the top of the engine or underneath, and what size socket or wrench did you use? The drivers side came out fine, the passenger side is giving me the flux.

Also, where the hell is the bolt for the water pump assembly? I need to locate it for the stock location intercooler install.
Thanks
Steve Chambers

I didn't remove the crossover to do the starter.
If you must, I am pretty sure I removed the crossover with a 15mm (not sure on size), then swivel, then a long extension out the bottom. Took some patience and a bit of aggression. :D

Not too sure what you mean by water pump bolt.

For the stretch install, what I did was line the bracket up with the pump and the mounts on the replac IC to see which bolt's I had to pull.Youll be able to figure it out quick when looking at it without the IC in there and with the replacement bracket in your hand.Be sure to use sealer or the pump will leak.I put the shroud and IC in with the car on the ground.:)

Real fun will be when you line the IC up.:)

Id go at the bolts from underneath.Much easier if you have access to a lift.

Scotty B How the hell

Did you remove the starter w/out getting at the crossover?
I might try this tomorrow.
Thanks

you can do it with a u joint and two long extensions from underneath.

hell you dont really even need the u joint, maybe another extension.. should be able to get to them easy as pie.. dont even take em out, just loosen.. you should be able to get the starter out like that...

After years of owning VW's, I've learned the fine art of contortion. It's been a while, but I think 2 wires, 2 bolts, and snake it outa there. I do remember removing the dust cover, but I don't think it was necessary.

Thanks Guys

Thanks Guys, Drew, Scotty as soon as I find the time, definitely
