Damaged oil pan rails

What happens that causes oil pan rails to get broken or damaged like i have seen on several stage 2 blocks?
 
thanks - i wondered cause i know the lower end of stage 2 blocks are super strong--i guess that would explain it.
 
Dave is right. Typically a rod lets loose and the parts knock a hole in the pan rail. The block Tim is selling in this ad:

Appears to have been damaged in some sort of accident. Maybe the front suspension got crunched and made contact with the engine. There is no internal damage that would lead you to believe that a rod had broken.

I think this might have been where you question came from. If not I'm sorry for adding to any confusion.

Yes-that is where i thought of asking the question cause i saw the damage but couldnt figure what exactly let go.-thanks.
