When it loses power (i.e., you unhook the battery) it comes back on in metric. Seems silly that it doesn't come back to U.S. but that's the way it is. If it's doing it at random you might have a problem with the power supply. They bake over time. Casper's fixes them.

i had the same exact problem. i was working in my dash, and blew the fuse for the interior lights. when i turned the key on, it was reading in metric. i was like WTF?? i turned the key off then back on and it was in english again. i replaced the interior lights fuse, and it stayed. must be some kind of programming mode with the fuse out, i guess.

I have a digital dash and mine went to Kilometers, all you do is turn the button (Miles button) on the dash. It will go from normal to kilometers.

Bingo! I replaced the headliner and blew the fuse for the dome light. There's no bulb in it now. Bet everything will be fine when I replace the bulb. Many thanks!

glad i could help by stumbling upon something by having an OOOOOPS!:o

same problem

i have this same problem. its showing kph instead of mph and the trip odometer isnt lighting up. i found the fues for the mph and fuel and took it out and back in , no change. also interior lights are working and i tried turning, pushing in and turning the trip reset with no luck. . I am told it has always shown moh and still did 2 days ago before i got it. ANy ideas. is there any fuses that might cause the trip odo not to work or anything else i should check.

If turning the reset knob doesn't toggle the readout from KPH to MPH, you have a defective reset switch. However, if the system goes from KPH to MPH back to KPH everytime you start the car, it's a chip problem in the dash PC board. There is a memory wire that must be at 12V at all times feeding the dash, otherwise it is unpredictable which mode the dash goes to during startup.

update

I looked at all the fuses and they look good. what does work is fuel and speedometer in metric, climate control lighting and all aftermarket lighting. can not seem to get it to go from kilos to mph and was told that it was working 2 days ago when car was shipped. all interior lights also work both rear and maplights and floor lights. . Is there supposed to be lighting for the shifter or backlighting for the digital dash itself or just the numbers light up.
I also notice glove box light doesnt work(may be a bulb, havent checked) also twilight sentinal doesnt work ( still have to ask previous owner if it did before) whatever few lights are working do dim properly.
Any info would be greatly appreciated. also does anyone have any wiring diagrams for twilight sentinal and digital dash wiring??? those would be really helpful. I saw a bunch of diagrams on the other site, but none for this

The digital dash has no backlighting. The only illumination is from the display segments (or hi beam, boost lo and hi lights). There is a backlight on the mechanical odometer though - two bulbs either side of it. They should dim with the dimmer control on the dash. Also, the display segments should dim with the dimmer.

If you can't reset the KPH-MPH function, your selector/reset switch is defective and must be replaced.

Is there a way to swith it by jumping a wire or anything. If you can switch between the two, there has to be a trigger signal going somewhere. Does anyone have a good diagram of what goes where.I dont really care if i can switch it to kilos or not as long as i can get it back to mph.

John how much does this repair usually cost and also what kind of turn around time. I just got the car yesterday and really dont wanna park it just yet

The switch is a specially made PC board mounted switch, actually no longer available from the manufacturer. When we repair the dash, we can replace the switch and do the 199MPH upgrade all at the same time. The switch has four pins, it twists to toggle between modes (one pole) and pushes in to reset the trip odometer (the other pole).
Same day we get the dash, we ship it back to you repaired.

I can attest to the quality repair and speedy shipping.

dash

Mine is broke. I pushed on the trip reset so much that it broke the trip leds. So I dont know how to get it to read in mph.

That's a different story. It is a design flaw on the dash. If you push too hard, the fluorescent display actually breaks open because of too much flex on the PC board. Since it's basically a vacuum tube, once it's broke, it's gone. It needs to be replaced along with the reset switch.
Problem is, the display is no longer available from the manufacturer. The only way to repair it is to remove a display from a good used digital dash, so it renders the used dash pretty useless.
