Tonight my father asked me if he could take my car out to dinner. I said sure, not a problem as long as he parked the car, not the valet. He didn't understand this, asked why, I told him that I just didn't trust a valet's, that I have heard horror stories (Ferris Buler's day off anyone??) of people's cars getting wrecked, or taken for 'joy rides' by valet's. I'd rather be safe then sorry. Not that I didn't trust my father with my car, he can take it any day of the week (as long as I get his truck  )

So am I the only one like this? Or not?

If the "place" of interest is a restaurant and has valet parking, I'm under the impression that they are responsible for their employees......but I'd trust the city restaurants.

...and I'd make sure the "older" valet driver parks it and I'd make it worth their while to place it away from the other cars :)

I would rather flatten my tires and leave it in the street than let a valet touch my car....

I think you'd be surprised that many valets are not employees of the establishment that you're patronizing. I've heard of horror stories that the restaurants contract these valet services and don't check whether or not they have insurance coverage. If some valet damages your car, there is no one to go after. One cumbersome way of handling them is: You could watch them park your car (close to the establishment), request your keys and go inside and eat. Then after you're done eating, give them your keys and they can then pull the car up for you. You save your car from being joyridden in and they can still get a tip. Admittedly, it's a hassle but an alternative. HTH

I'm too cheap to pay a valet...

There's a club that I go to frequently and when I drive the Buick there, you can almost see the valet's dreaming of driving this car. Uh... NO! I'll park it. Been parking it for 11 years now, I don't think I need any help.

Sometimes I will let me girlfriend out at the door if the weather is bad and then go park the car and vice versa when we leave, but once again, I DRIVE.

Now I have been to some nice restaurants in the city, but once again if I think they will have the valet parking I will drive the truck. Although, I also worry then, but these are nice restaurants.

They usually get all pissy when you park it yourself but I don't really care. I just tell them it has a complicated anti-theft system so it would be easier for me to park it.

One year when I attended the Auto Show at the Jacob Javits convention center in NYC I left my MGB at a garage. They had asked me how long I was going to leave it there, but that's not unusual because they try to keep the shorter term parkers up front. As I walked to the convention center I saw it come right back out the back of the building - top down - just like in Ferris Bueller's Day Off. The guy I was with couldn't believe it. I didn't care as long as it was there and had gas in it when I got back. It was and it did.

I was in college at the time - I'd feel a little different about it today.

Get a chip with a valet mode.

I have one. It's the story I tell the valets. I only leave it in valet mode for the car wash guys (yes, I've run it through mechanical car washes when it's too cold to wash it outside - so sue me).

I used to be a valet at a catering hall here where i live, i have many many true stories from experience but, i wont let any valets drive my cars. I will let them drive my truck though, has a few scratches and isnt something that they would want to do anything but park and get out :D

HELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I barely let family drive the car and I hate the emissions people driving it.

Not a chance with either of them.

At the Casino I try to find open space as far away from Valet parking as possible.

Usually down in back where the security SUV is parked.

Even if I was staying at the hotel there I'd walk or take the complimentary bus up to the place.

No valets ever.

Only on the condition that the valet is Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and totally naked, with a bottle of Moet...

I'm a, "You die for that door ding", kind of guy. I pity the fool that ever, ever...

Well, you get the idea...

:D

i let a valet park my bagged truck one time and it got all tore up when he rammed it into the curb... and then denied it! the company ended up paying for it, and i think the guy got fired. lesson learned.

i let a valet park my SS one at a strip club, they wouldn't let me park my own car. When i took my hurst there was no way they were touching that, i parked on the street. They wouldn't have been able to figure out the lightning rods

not a chance.

when i take it in to get new tires put on, i drive it in and out of the stall. the only time anyone i didn't know drive it was last week when i had the alignment done. i parked infront of the building and the doors were around back. I heard them fire it up, instantly rev it up, no warm up time at all. they took off i heard the turbo spool and tires squeal. i was a little pissed after that. some guy who worked there had a gn and i started talking to him and asked him to either drive the car back himself or have whoever is working on the car take it easy.

i heard them fire it up and take it down the street to check the alignment, again you'll never guess what i heard. (the cars pretty loud) a loud turbo that sounded liek it was going far over 45...

I drive MY car...

This is a joke right???

HHHHHHEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLL NNNNNOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

If you aren't a blood relative or one of my closest friends, don't even think about asking me for the keys,FOOL!

Im far too cheap to need valet, Wendys or Motel 6 is good enough for me. The one time I let one dummy from pep boys drive it in to put tires on. I told the cashier to tell whoever drove it to be very careful, the brakes give out when you least expect it. (;) ;) ) Then i watched the guy practically idle it into and out of the garage.:D

Bwaahaahahahahah.....yea right. My wife doesn't even drive my GN.

I want to know who the FOO was who voted YES!
