people are always saying that they spin their drag radials at 40, 50, and even 60 MPH. my tires dont even spin when the boost comes in from a dead stop. I know spinning isnt exactly good when you are trying to go fast but i dont get why i cant spin my tires from a role. Even if i brake boost it at 15-25 mph the tires dont spin. all my numbers on my scan master seem to be good except my 02's are kind of all of the place. 840-070-240- at WOT its weird. some times the numbers are perfect, around 760-840. i have 275-60-15 BFG drags. Why dont hey spin? am i missing power?

Thanks

Jesse

Curious

I'd like to know as well.

What are people talking about when they say they get the tire spin. Is it from a dead stop and when encountering it at speed going from 2nd to 3rd is it just a chirp or is it all out spinning?

Well, when my car is running right, which it isn't right now, it will start to roll and then start spinning the tires. If i'm going 20-30 in drive and I floor it the turbo spools by the time it downshifts and it will blow the tires away. Leave black marks, fish tail, all that. Also, depending on the day (air temp I think is the primary factor) it will chirp the tires on the up shift into third. This is with a stock turbo, race prepped trans (quick plug for lonnie diers. His trannies rock!!) and a rebuilt (stock specs) motor. Also 235/60/15 BFGoodrich radial t/a's (hold the pizza cutter comments please :) )As a side note I just wiped a cam so I'm pulling the motor and tearing it down. It's going back together with a mild home port on the heads, roller cam and a TE-61. I can barely contain myself!!

I know you asked about spinning drag radials, but I do not have them on my car. My 255/60/15 radials do not have a chance! It is actually a pain in the a$$ when I am doing anything below 40mph. I almost lost a race with my brother and his GT because of this. When I descide on new wheels(if I ever do ;) ), drag radials are in order. It has an upside though. It really freaks out the ricers when I smoke them up at 40mph!

I have 255/60 BFG Drad Radials on my car. I can light em up at around 25 MPH on a hot day and around 35 MPH on a cold day. It also depends on whether or not it's asphalt or concrete.

My car 60fts 1.60's. Stock suspension, 104k miles on all the bushings.

When I have the same tune in my car as I have in the video (see sig), I can blow my M/T drag radials off at 60. If I take someone for a ride, I wait till the middle of second before rolling into it and feather the throttle until it hooks. Lots of fun...

I'm sorta in the same boat not spinning but i have a drive side header leak and attribute that to my issue with the burn outs, but i'm not gonna mess with it right now i'm port matching and smoothing out the passages to a new set of heads so when i do my tear down i'll get it all, but with the spool i do now and just put an exhaust cutout approx. a week ago and have it uncapped it will burn at the line pretty hard, people look at me funny cause its loud as h3ll but i think less restriction less leakage through my header so i'm expecting big things when i get done.

In general cars that do not run low 11's or better will not spin the tires once they are in 2nd gear (shifting into 2nd is different.) So the guys that are spinning at higher speeds are a ways from stock.

My car with 235/60s BFG DR's spun pretty bad at full boost on the stock turbo. Didn't realize that until I went to BFG DR 275 50s and it started hooking. My car now on 275/40 17 Nitto 555s will kill the tires above 15psi of boost. It will haze the tires from a roll at 60 if you let it it 18+ psi of boost. This is pig rich on a 44.

My car on 17x9.5s with 315/35 nitto DRs can spin them any time in 1st gear usually (actually hooks in 1st better than second probably due to weight transfer) But nailing it from a 35 roll where it only drops in 2nd the car will accelerate and spool hard and then spin them on the way past 45-50 and then hook. If I nail it from a 45 or 50 i may get a chirp on the downshift but thats it.

Wow Factor

This is all incredible information, I can't wait to get mine running right to have the option you guys describer here.

I love the responses, now if we could just get a video and some popcorn.

The next question I have is what is boost reading when getting these results.

I didn't have major issues with tirespin until I put on Razors alchy kit. Now I have to run with drag radials all the time  I'm running in fairly conservative street tune with about 22 lbs boost and spraying methanol. Anything below about 40 mph and you'd better hold on tight. It seems to me though a quick spooling turbo matched with the right converter will usually always put on a good smokeshow.

Id like to go for a ride! My car could spin street tires from a roll but I have BFG drag radials now they stick pretty good.

Second gear is the best. Take someone for a ride, pull away from the light at about 3-4 psi, get a little chirp in second and about 35 mph/half way through second add the other 17 psi fast  They thought the chirp was cool, now they're $#!%ing their pants looking up the road, out the side window screaming WTF!!!
Drag radials are for time slips

wheel spin

I have a 86 T, ( just bought it) t45, 3600 stall, 214 roller cam, etc, etc,
has 295-50-15, from a 20-30-40-50- roll, its like driving on ice, no way will it hook, have to feather it, boost comes on so hard, its like dumping the clutch, my almost stock we4 won't spin like this,
I think its all in how much HP you have , and the set up,
yea its fun, but its also a curse, as you HAVE to be on top of it, or
it'll be very embarassing.
good luck

If it's in 1st gear, it's gonna spin. Usually it intimadates most cars when they see you spin going that fast. The road has to be perfectly straight or otherwise I'm all over the place.

I would like to videos also. Gotta tell you a story ;). I took my girl home to the States a month ago and she had never been in a car like our Buicks. Anyway, I was in the right lane behind a pickup waiting on the red light. I descided we needed to go to the Walmart for some car cleaning supplies. The left lane was a left turn lane and was a long slow turn, uphill across 3 lanes and a median. I checked the mirrors and saw another car coming but I knew I could make it. As I turned into the lane, that car started blowing its horn. Well of course I had to get moving ;) . I was doing about 20mph and nailed it. Took a good second or two to hit boost but when it did, got a good left hand drift going, left a nice cloud of smoke and two beautiful black marks all the way till I backed out of it to get traction. By this time I was perfectly lined up straight heading down the highway I just turned left on. Man it was sweet! Needless to say my girlfriend was impressed as well as scared sh!tless. Man I love these Buicks!

I could sorta break my old tires free from a very slight roll on the stock wheels, but now that I have 275s out back and a pretty much stock GN....traction doesn't break.

OK....I was wondering the same thing.....I drove a friends GN that had GN1s and I spinnned the tires no problem at like 40mph, I got back into my car and it didnt do it!!!I think that once you upgrade the heads.....there is no problem spinning the tires at any speed.
