does the window need to be the up or down position to remove the glass and power window mechanism? thanks

I believe it is about 2/3 of the way up. The stop at the rear bolted to the glass needs to be removed also. The window needs to be further down for that. Lots of other things that should be obvious, the guide/stabilizer bolted to the door at the top rear needs to be removed. The regulator is installed with 1/4" splitting type rivets.

I think it can be any way you have it set at. The rivets have to be drilled out to remove the regulator. The glass needs to be removed from the regulator which is no big deal as it's held on with nuts. All of the tracks and channels need to be unbolted. The belt molding or dew wipe needs to be removed and all of the stops and stabilizers need to be removed than the glass should pull out with out a hitch. Not hard just time consumming.
