what is the best size and brand to use on stock 15 inch rims for street/strip use

275-50s

Nitto 275-50s fit nicely on my T-type wheels. The wheelwell opening lip had already been rolled up on my car, but I don't think that was necessary to fit these 275-50s. Also, I heard that my brake drums (aluminum) had like 1/8" more offset than some other available drums, but who knows. Anyway, nice fit and seems like enough sidewall for good traction.

I had the Nitto 275-50-15's and they fit (with the lip rolled) just fine. I wore them out and got a set of BFG 275-50-15's and they're much tighter on the same rims with the same airbag pressure. Rubbed on the driver's side until I boosted the airbag pressure. They appear to be wider.

The Best size for drag radial for stock rims is 275/60, hands down.

Don't bother with the 50's. They are really too wide for 7" rims and you will run out of RPM if you run more than 112 mph in the 1/4. I went through 3 sets of 50's before I figured this out.

Both BFG, Nitto and soon MT make 275/60's. BFG's are wider than the Nittos, but both are narrower and will rub less than the 50's with stock rims.

You can get away without spacers using T rims, but GN rims might need a 5/16" spacer to keep the tire off the frame.

Isn't the 60 just 28" tall compared to the 50 being 26" tall?
275 being the width in mm?

The main difference is that the 275/50s on a 7" rim tend to be wider because their sidewalls bulge out more. The 50s typically rub and require a small spacer to not rub on most TRs. The 60s being taller but the same width do not bulge out as much sidewall wise and only rub on very hard turns. I run the 275/60 nittos and like them a lot. I think the 50s look a little better but I don't wanna rub a spacer.
