Ok.I have saved a DS file on a floppy and want to be able to post it.I'm stuck at the part where the computer asks what program I wanted to open it with. And where do I go from there(once I open it with the correct program) to be able to post it or email it.TIA

I'm very interested in this as well, as I want to make some Excel graphs and see what she's doing with different ambient conditions and 02 numbers. Thanks to anybody who can assist.

To email it just create an email and "attach" the file. When you do the attach it will open up a file browser for you to locate the file to attach.

To post it somewhere you want to copy it there. The destination would probably have the instructions. I don't think that you can post anything here except the url (link) where something is actually posted.

In niether case do you start by double clicking on the file.

I am not a Winderrs expert and generally just kind of hack my way thru it so there may be better ways.

To use excel to graph DS files, you have to export a csv file from DS. Then just open up Excel and open that file. Then just follow the import 'wizard' that will pop up when you open csv files.

Another way is to double-click on the csv file, then when it asks you for what program to use, find Excel, or MSExcel, or Microsoft Excel (something like that). If the program is not there, then click <other> and look for 'Excel.exe' -usually in \Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office. If you check the 'always use this program....', then whenever you click on csv files, Excel will open.

Ok,I finally figured out how to save the file as a csv file and saved it in"my documents".But when I tried viewing the file from DS under the right directory and csv file,I get a message"Reading file, please wait".Then all of a sudden it cops out and an "illegal warning "pops up and I'm back to point zero. What am I doing wrong? The reason behind this is,I just want to make sure that when I send this file out(e/mail) the recipient can be able download it and view it.

There are a few types of files.

The first being the native Direct scan data file which is typically ds_data.xxx. xxx being 000, 001, 002.etc or file.dat. This file can only be read by others with DS so if you want to post that file so others can read it and make sure that it is really the correct file, run DS and load that in- I forget off the top of my head where it is in the menus of DS but just poke around or someone else can answer this.

Another type of file is an exported csv file that is just a comma separated database. It is the raw data and I don't think DS can import this, but a database program such as Access, mysql, or a spreadsheet program such as Excel can import this.

So if you want others to view your DS runs, it's better to post the data file not the csv file.

If you want to make graphs or do math with the data you want to export the csv file and use a spreadsheet.

BM computer posts the .dat files.

I am now able to send my files and read other's files correctly. You guys pretty much summed it all up.Thanks.....
