Thanks, guys. I'm looking in the 2004-2005 range based on price, so will probably wind up with either the LB7 or LLY and it sounds like I will be happy either way. Not planning to mod it much if anything beyond exhaust, probably not even a programmer - I care most about mileage and don't ever want to hurt the transmission.

You can run the LLY on the Predator 65hp setting all day long and tow a reasonable amount of weight without limping the tranny....I know, I've been doing it for 22k miles with 0 problems. Just keep in mind, and not trying to insult your knowledge.... on diesel motors boost (air) lowers EGT, so a good exhaust and air filter kit will help keep the EGT's in check. The revised Predator box has a higher boost setting just for this reason...too many complaints of high EGT's. I'm of the opinion that GM purposly did this to keep the cat hot enough to burn off the particulates that it's filtering out of the exhaust stream. If you read anything about the new Duramax, you will see that GM has code in the PCM that injects fuel under certain circumstances to bring the EGT up around 1000* to get a burn off from the cat and scrubber that's on the new motor's exhaust stream. It's pretty wild...they have pressure sensors up and down stream of the scrubber to sense when the filter is clogged...pretty cool but going to be a bitch to mod without a code breaker like yourself writing new code to trick the PCM into thinking everything is fine.

I have a 2006 lbz duramax. I've only run a diablo predator tuner so far, and am really happy with it, as i can adjust for the tire size (20" jesse james hoops:biggrin: ) and there are a bunch of settings over stock (which is 360hp, 600 tq) and the first 3- towing, perf. 1, and perf.2 all improved fuel mileage from around 9-9.5 mpg to around 10-11mpg towing. I also ran high 14's with it on perf. 1, and i've never gone past that. I'm going to be looking into an air intake system and exhaust this summer, and i'll post my findings after that..

p.s., i love the allison 6 speed:cool:

You got 20's, what tires you run? I run Toyo 10 ply's. They are expensive but BAD AZZ tires! I have 25K miles on them and they have about had it but probably 10K of those miles is pulling the GN's around! I haven't changed my speedo, I use my Garmin for MPH! I figured saved a few miles on the odometer:biggrin:

Put a Cummins in it:)

Thatll give you all the power and fuel mileage you need. Not to mention itll last 5x longer than the competetion.

Hey.... That's what I was gonna say!! :D

Come on now! As many diesel's as a see at tracks somebody has got to have some input!

I think there are more "brand loyal" arguments about diesels now-a-days than anything else... ;)

As mentioned by many above make sure you have a way to keep track of EGT's, especially since you tow with it.

What are you guys doing with this new fuel they are selling?

BW

I've been running Lucas Products since I get a killer deal on it...16oz. with every fill up. I think I may try the "cheapy quart of oil" route soon though.

Blue Thunder

OK lets dissect that term "blue" = yes the truck is blue, "thunder" = makes a bunch of noise, but it sure as hell ain't going to hurt ya. hey that's just like the cummins, a cummins sure does make a lot of racket but it sure ain't going to hurt ya!!!

Nice additions to your signature... ;) I always knew you were full of $h!t... :D
