We got a new Dynojet at work and I'd like to try my GN on it. Anything different than the na cars we do now? Any tips or tricks?
Thanks.

Mark

try to go from a higher speed to keep the tranny from kicking down to second. Most places let it kick down and it shows a HUGE torque #. Ofcourse this # is false because of the kickdown and convertor spike. You not goin to get low rpm #'s anyway with an auto unless its a manual valve body so try to go from a higher mph to keep the tranny from kicking down :)

This is what i did when i ran the dyno at Modern Musclecar

Dyno test

Also don't skimp on the fuel put in a quality race fuel.

Make sure you tie the car down with several straps. I know several guys who have broken one or 2 straps during a run. Kinda pisses off the dyno operators, but its better than driving your car into the wall. Watch the rpms. They will go up much faster than they do on the street.

I dont think race gas is an issue if the car is tuned right.. if your doing tuning do it with what gas you would be driving with.

Hi Mark, sounds like fun. What we did with a friend's GN was to drive it like we were making a tuning pass on the street. Shifter in 2nd, roll it up to 2500-3500 rpm, nail it and manually shift to 3rd when it's time. You won't get the low rpm torque peak but you really don't ever drive there anyway, and this will show you good afr data for the top of 2nd, the shift, and the long pull through 3rd over the rpm range you really care about anyway.

Thats right Dave,
That' s why I said race gas because thats what I have in the car when crusing you never know when a lesson needs to be had.

Thanks for the replies! They give me some idea what to do. Now-if I could learn the Dynojet program......

Hopefully it's a newer Dynojet that will allow you to load the engine. Other wise, you may need to drag the barkes a little in the lower gears to get the boost up. This is usually a problem with guys with big turbos.

It better be the latest, greatest thing Dynojet offers. Just got it last week but the boss is busy dynoing all the Corvettes and Firebirds we build to let me play with it. New toy fr the boss!

Does any one know about how much hp and torque an 87 gn gets to the rear wheels? anybody ever run a stock one on the dyno? thanks

A good stocker should be at 275 hp.

Of course that depends on your version of stock. :D

The one I saw had stock chip and fuel pump and only mod. was the ATR ram air which I'm sure helped a lot on a dyno. ;)

Forget the torque number.

Should be able to tune well with wide band, Make a couple of pulls checking A/F and K/R. Good luck going soon myself, Getting ready for Bowling Green. Steve ready for better numbers this year?
