I thought this was boost creep, but now not sure. Anyone out there had this problem associated with a tired module or coil?

Boost up to 16 psi, then boost moves back and forth from 14-16 psi, kind of like a bucking or surging feeling. Just does not feel right. Plugs and wires are pretty new, ACR43ts gapped at .032.

Module and coil are at least 4 years old. Anyone had luck with these parts from Autozone? Do they sell both?

Thanks:rolleyes:

dyermullet,
What alien infested your igniton module? Did it wipe out your coil pack?

Usually ignition problems are exacerbated by heat.

yeah I've seen the pics of the dripping cheese module.....pretty gooey.....but what symptoms prompted you to look under there?

When the original ignition went on mine it was really obvious, like 6 psi and POP, NO Fire.

I'm trying to find the ghost here and wondering if anyone had the symptoms come on slowly like i described up top. I guess the best way is to swap out with my buddy's, who is out of town this weekend of course....

I was chasing down a drivability problem. The car was bucking with any boost. It was flatout undriveable.

I think I have it all sorted out, and I am about to reply with a fallowup to my threads asking about my problem. But everytime I am about to do it the problem comes back. I think i have it licked this time I am just giving it another week.

FWIW & IMHO:
AutoZone no longer warranties the coil pack.
You might want to do a search.
I tried to copy & paste but this site will not allow the site name
It is the one that ends in "s" that is not allowed to be spoken over here.

Warning For All
I don't like to bad mouth anyone but I just thought I would give everyone a warning. I bought a new coil pack from AUTO ZONE for my 87 GN 3 weeks ago. Before I paid for it the guy told me that there was NO WARRANTY (which I thought was odd). Some of you know I posted here with my trouble I was having with a surging problem that kept getting worse. I took my car over to Mark Wallaces house last night and had him check it out. He put his coil pack tester on it and we got no responce what so ever. We both thought , maybe his tester was not working so we used an ohm meter and again got nothing. The car runs and drives but surges under full boost. I just bought one from NAPA that DOES have a warranty. The one from Auto Zone was $58 and the one from Napa was $109. So I guess you really do get what you pay for. Auto Zone will continue to get my business BUT I will make sure I get a warranty next time.

None of the 6 turbobuicks guys in town have a caspers tester, so I just replaced the module and coil. They both looked to be original, and so I wanted to just put all new on there so I won't have to worry about it again for another 110,000 miles I hope.

I only had the car for like 6 weeks and I was (and still am) working on tracking down some of the little problems it has. Most of them are from it not being driven that much the last few years.

Thanks for the response guys......Advance said they could not get the delco parts, only their house brand $100 for the module and $50 for the coil sounds cheap to me. As stated above you get what you pay for.

NAPA says $109 for the coil and $210 for the module. They also have an "economy" module for half the price but I don't trust that. Both warrantied for 1 year.

This coming wednesday may be my last chance to race this season so I'm itchy fix this, I guess i will be finding out how well the NAPA products work.....I'll let you know

:p
