I bought an eaton posi unit posted on here a few months ago and just got it in. The guy that put it in is real good. It looked good from a visual inspection and put new carrier bearings in it. It sounds alright down the road until you turn a corner. I didn't notice it until I was going slow into the driveway. It is popping and shaking the whole rear end. One guy told me that they can make some noise and shutter, but this is scarey sounding. Does it sound like I got ripped off? I thought a $160 was too good of a deal.

The guy who installed it said he uses very expensive fluid. He's never had any other problems. He said I could add an additive. I guess it's worth a try.

eaton

Every eaton pops and shakes. I had one in my mustang, its so close to a full spool it pathetic. I wouldnt worry to much

The GM friction modifier (the yellow colored stuff) is pretty weak and can break down quickly.
The best stuff I found was the bluish-green colored Ford friction modifier. This was recommended to me by Bill at Western Drivetrain in Colorado. I was having creaking/groaning/chatter on the stock Eaton in my 87 GN. I changed the fluid and added the Ford stuff and the noise went away. We did this on my fathers 94 Z28 after it went back to the dealer twice for the same noise problem.
I have also ran it in my Z71 which has an aftermarket Eaton.
Try changing the fluid and adding 2 bottles of the Ford friction modifier.

Thanks guys. I'll give the additive a try. So it sounds like these things can make some noise. I sounded fine when I had my stereo up loud. But when I had my window down and went slow around a corner it does some serious popping. I guess at this point if both tires spin when I go straight, I'll just keep going.

Took your advice GNVAIR and put in two bottles of Ford friction additive. Have only drove a few miles so far, but it sure seems like it's going to make a huge difference. The exciting thing is it looks like I'll actually be able to build up boost at the line without my peg leg slipping. Hopefully I'll get to the track tomorrow.
Thanks again!!!!!!

I dont know what Ford puts in the stuff, but it sure quieted down quite a few noisey posi units in some of the cars I have done. :)
