are there any companies that sell the 87 style ecm and coil pack, or do you have to get them from wrecked cars? Are any modifications required to make them work?

Red Regal T sells the 87 ecm's, in the parts for sale section.Directions for the ecm swap: http://www.gnttype.org/techarea/ecmsensors/8487ecm.html
To do the swap right you need a 87 maf, 87 mat sensor and wiring, proper calpak chip,87 chip.
Most Turbo Buick vendors have the 87 coil pack.
You can buy the 87 coil pack from Accel and it includes an adapter for the 85 ignition module.
To use the 87 ignition module you need a wiring adapter available from Casper's electronics or other vendors.
HTH :D

You can go this route too!

Get a 86/87 ECM..........use your stock 84/85 stuff...........and have a chip burner custom burn the chip for you car????? Custom burnt chip are like 70 bucks..........and the 86/87 ECM is 69 shipped from Red Regal T!!!!!!Go guy just got mine today and looks brandy new!

That is the route I am going.........and you could still get a 86/87 coil with the adapter that is made for it later on........and you could still run the electric fan harness too.......later on.......or just put your fans on a switch.

Is the 86/87 MAF sensor that much better then hot air ones??

Then you dont have to route the MAT sensor before the other sensor........I am lost now because there are so many dam sensors.........:D

Not sure how much cheaper that way is?? But, it seems easier.......HTH>>>>>>Nick

I to went with a custom chip burned for an 84 maf 87 ecm when I had my 84 T. And no the 86-87 MAF is not better...the parameters(ecm reads them differently) are different that's why people say to get the 86-87 MAF...a custom chip takes care of that problem. The MAT sensor is also not necessary but the engine light will stay on until it is wired in.
