Does anyone have picutres of their headers with an EGT bung in each pipe? I have my headers off and want to get them welded in but need to know where to place each bung. Email is fillys6@gmail.com

Thanks.

EGT Bungs

The location of the bungs is not as important as the placement being as evenly spaced from tube to tube. Meaning locate the bungs at equal spots
in the tube from the flange and angles . The more equal everything is the
better the information will be

Good point, thanks Dan. I just want to make sure I can get to each spark plug and header bolt without interfering with the bung. I guess I can bolt everything back to the motor and mark it myself.

here's a pic of my passenger-side header showing 1/8 NPT port placement. There's a port in each header tube plus the "usual" port near the turbo inlet. Driver-side is similar.

It can be very tricky selecting the right spot to weld the ports. The header should be mounted with all sparkplugs and wires in place, then mark the hole location. Measure 2-3 times, drill once!

I also advise to have the actual Theromouple (TC) probe onhand when marking holes, and make sure everything will clear. Don't forget to check clearance between the O2 sensor and the TC probe.

My photo shows the angled Autometer type-K probe, the skewed port locations were partly due to the probe fitting requirements. Note the heat shields for the sparkplug wires are still in place, that was another minor fit interference.

The #6 cyl probe is further from the flange than the others ... at the time, that seemed the best overall compromise to get everything to fit. All else being equal, the #6 probe might read lower temps, but I think a repeatable, relative temperature reading is probably as helpful as an absolute accurate temp.

I haven't actually used the headers yet, so no comment on how well the probes work

pic of driver side header with ports.

the ports are made of 304 stainless, and were TIG-welded with 309 rod to the OEM 409 stainless headers.
