Does anyone run a Autometer or VDO EGT gauge on their GN or T Type?
Summit sells both but the Autometer comes without an installation kit whereas the VDO comes with an install kit....I want to buy a 2 1/16" dia gauge and install it in the console along with a fuel pressure guage....

Which ones would any of you recomend I buy?

Thanks guys,

Woody

I dont think either will read over 1600. i may be wrong. you'll need one that will read over 1600.
i would invest the money to get one that will record highest egt. theres too much going on while driving to pay constant attention to egt guage

Thanks for your reply! My GN is a daily driver.......I've never been down the track with it and probably won't, however, that isn't to say I may not entertain a street race occasionaly......Anyone else? I don't think I have a need for a recall feature.......

Come on guys.need some input here :)

I recently looked into purchasing an AutoMeter as well but like he stated none of them that I could find went over 1600 degree there for making them just about useless as you'll need one that will read at least 1700 but 1800 or higher would be best

i am looking into the msd boost/egt gauge i like the dual gauges look but haavent herd anything on these yet they just came out.

I read about the new MSD "dual" gauge(s).........The concept is great and I'm sure it would be a worthwhile investment.........

I went ahead and ordered a Autometer Fuel pressure gauge and a VDO egt gauge (1650 max indicator)...I hope the installation goes well and is relatively simple...I want to be able to monitor the fuel pressure in the "cockpit", not from a hood mounted gauge ( I already have one on my fuel rail under the hood). My tuner told me I needed these two gauges to avoid blowing 2 head gaskets again..LOL :D

Any comments/help on the installation of these gauges? Any help will be most appreciated.......

thanks guys!

Autometer has both 1600 and 2000 degree EGT's depending on the gauge style (Phantom, Ultra Lite, and Others have 2000 degree units). Both are available as kits that come with the probe setup, it's just a different part number. The kits usually have the stainless steel band clamp setup that all you have to do is drill a hole for the probe. Their "High End" performance and racing probes have a weld in bung. Easiest thing to do is go to www.autometer.com and look at what is available in the face style you want (Black, white, silver, etc). Both VDO and Autometer work essentially the same way and have similar hook ups. Both are as accurate as an analog gauge can be but I suppose a digital unit may be even more accurate depending on the manufacturer.
Woody, I see you've already ordered your gauges and I hope it works out for you.. Personally I would have gone with the Autometer 2000 degree EGT kit so the gauge faces would match. It's never too late to return that VDO!!
You are going to love that Autometer electric fuel pressure gauge. Hook up is fairly easy but if you want to do it right you're going to need a few adapters to mount it to the fuel rail properly. Drop me a line and I can hook you up with parts or part numbers you should be able to locate easily in your home town.

Stewart Warner also makes a nice gauge that goes to 2200. Im thinking about it soon as well.
