ever since i had the new motor pu in my car will drain a battery in about 1 day. i have now bought a deep cycle battery just so i can keep jumping it to get it started. i can charge it all night long and drive it for a few hours come back out 5 hours later and its dead. i had it set up on a trickle charger and it will not keep it charged, so i figure its using all the juice the charger is giving it. any ideas? i checked all the lights under the hood, trunk and in the car. im lost.

To check for a short or drain.Disconnect the positive battery cable.Run a test light between the positive battery post and the positive battery cable. If it lights up bright. You have a draw.(take out the fuses or bulbs for you dome light and underhood light)Go to the fuse block and pull fuses till the light goes off. That will tell you where it is.

While the car is sitting and cold, feel the alternator. If it's warm, you have a shorted diode trio causing your problem.
Look for the obvious; trunk light on, glovebox on, cables shorting.

Then, disconnect both connectors on your fan delay relay. They pick up water damage internally and short out. That's probably the most common reason for battery drain.

If you're losing battery power within five hours and it's alternator related, you will definitely get a warm alternator in that period.

ok it was the clk/cig fuse. i guess that does the interior lights, radio and lighter. my gauges where hooked to them so im gonna check them and the radio. thanks alot guys you saved me alot of time.
