Anyone else out there using an electrical Autometer engine temp gauge? I have mine tee'd into the sensor underneath the throttle body and thermostat housing. The guage takes about 30 minutes to actually show any reading and never gets past 160 when my real engine temps are in the 170's 180's. Is it becasue I don't have it reading from the actual CTS, but I thought it shouldn't matter because it is still touching the same coolant. So maby it is the sender?

If the T is outside the coolant flow a bit you may need to bleed it to get water in there and it may read less than the other sensor.

Takes a while to heat soak as well which would explain the slower readings.

I have a mechanical gauge with a T and compare it with the scanmaster.

Both work well once you get used to them and how they read.

do you mean by "t" as in tapping into an electical circuit or using an 1/8 npt pipe "T" to connect the OE coolant sender and a temp sender .
if you connected to the wire on the sender that is there . i beleive the sender you connected to is an idiot light sender switch for overheat not a temp sender , get a sender unit and "T" it in with the temp switch or just pull out the temp switch and install a sender , you wont have an idiot light but your gauge will work
, im running an autometer mechanical temp and oil

Even with the sensor in the coolant , the gauge span or range isn't necessary correct. It should be close. On my VDO temp gauge the readings from 160* to 180* doesn't track with direct scan. The 160* is within 1-3* but when the VDO shows 180* DS is reading 174*.
Unless you have your unit caliberated, you will at best just be close on temp.
Just my 2 cents.

I meant npt pipe "T". I'm going to mess around with it somemore to see if I get a better reading. Thanks for the feed back.

I had that problem when i first installed mine. i just ended up losing the factory sender and idiot light and it works perfectly.
