what is the proper paint to put on engine GLOSS BLACK or LOW GLOSS BLACK

I use an engine enamel I get at a local auto paint store...I use it on the block...front cover...water pump...lot of other parts...it actually cures from the heat of the engine...here's what it looks like...I would call it a semi-gloss or maybe satin...

Low gloss would be what the factory used back in the 80's.
In the engine assembly manual it states "9984038 enamel black(thin with naptha 1364702). Paint entire engine except for surfaces and parts indicated(shaded areas). Note:paint coverage should be a minimum of 1.0mm. Note:rocker covers and intake manifold must be free of paint over spray and other debris that detracts from apperance of parts.

The shaded areas were the WP pulley mounting, crank pulley mounting area, starter mount pad, VIN location and the pilot bearing hole.

Those numbers listed are no longer available from GM.

I sprayed my rocker covers in heat resistant K&H Crome metal Finish, about 4 coats.
