I know this is a beat up subject, but i wanna know, what this mod will do for my overall engine durability.
If I were to just throw some steel main and rod caps on my bottom end, and yanked my heads off, threw some of those really high pressure head gaskets from rjc on, then arp studded em down, would my engine at that point, take a little more abuse? or would i have to go thru, and throw some higher quality pistons, wrist pins, and rods too... How is our stock pistons, pins and rods? Are they one of those pieces, that are already good from the factory, and are ok stock? or do they suck, and usually require changing out...I'm not lookin to go any quicker than mid 11's right now. all my stuff is bone stock right now. (engine internals)

A standard rebuild will hold down 11's.

Unless the pistons are new, you are probably going to need new pistons anyway - the steel caps will require the block get taken down and line bored so once it is at the machine shop...it is the time to go as far as you want with the bottom end parts and the entire crank kits being offered these days look like good options for those thinking about getting it to a rebuild.

thats the point though, i dont want an entire rebuild :) (was just throwin this idea around thats all)

I'm not totally sure i need one as of yet. was just wanting a little insurance thats all. But, why do you need to take the block down and line hone for new caps? I thought they were just stock sized replacements, made of a tougher steel and that's it? thats weird..

If its running good, leave it alone. Run it till it breaks, then fix it.

If you 'know' you broke your engine, its probably because it was pretty loud. the only things i could guess, that would be pretty loud, would be rods snappin in half.. i dont want to wait till then lol. cuz then most likely, the blocks shot too.

Cannot just bolt in new main caps. I do not want to sound like I'm busting your chops, but you started the thread with "I know this has been beaten to death.." but it sounds like you have not read any of all that stuff already out there.

If you have oil pressure and it is all sealed up, do not mess with it
