You definately need to get yourself a oil pressure gauge. Possibility you have low oil pressure at idle and it builds up high enough with more engine speed for the tick to go away. I wouldn't run the car very much at all until you get a gauge on there. In the mean time you could try changing the oil and check it for metal particles, and put some higher viscosity oil in it to see if it goes away or quits down. You could even go the extra mile and send out an oil sample to be examined. They can tell you if there's bearing material, cam material or any other type of metal in the oil. That can potential save you a lot of money if you find out the engine needs a rebuild or just a new cam/lifters before something catastrophic happens. Without being able to actually hear the noise you have it's hard to tell if it would be a lifter noise or bearing noise you could be hearing.
I had the same problem. Ended up being the crank sensor out of adjustment on the balancer. Replaced with a new sensor as a matter of course and adjusted with two match books, one on each side :biggrin:
