Hey guys,
One of my pet peaves is getting the rubber from doing a burn out at the track or around town on the exhaust pipes. It just really cakes on and is a P.I.T.A. to get off. I do not want to put on a Monte Carlo style exhaust, but it is really starting to bug me. So my question is, how about having the exhaust exit before the tires? Do the same angle on the pipe, just run it before the tires rather then after the tires. I did hear that this may be illegal here in MD. Not sure if this is a rumor, but I heard that the exhaust pipes have to exit after the alxes. On the other hand I heard that as long as they can run the emissions test gear, then it is legal. Any one know which is true? Any one running the exhaust like I mentioned? If it is illegal, how do all the mustang guys get a way with the side pipe exhaust?

Thanks,
Jason

ive seen alot of cars running side exhausts at the local cruise. in fact my uncles has the same exhaust as you described on his car. dont really know if it is legal but from the looks of all the cars it probably isn't.

you could always install the dreaded mud flaps.....;) kind of ugly though. I have a friend that put vaseline on his fenders so the rubber would easily wipe off... don't know if this would burn off of the tailpipes though.

If side exhaust was illegal there would be a lot of Vipers and Ford Lightnings getting new exhaust systems.

not to mention all those regular F150's with exhaust in front of the tires. If that's true, Maryland legislators need to find a hobby.

its not illegal if its the stock location of the exhaust. BUT if its not the stock location you could be screwed.

I "Think" the pipe has to exit behind the last operating window to be legal.

I guess I'm justing going to have to call the Maryland MVA and ask. Thanks for the help guys.

Jason

why ask them? just do to your car what you want to do and let the state come after you if they have a problem with it. if some a$$hole bugs about it slip him a few beans. this is the land of the dollar bill we are living in. money can make people do almost anything especially look away.

i have open exhaust on every car i own, and here in chicago i dont get screwed with. and i do live in a highly populated area so i would think that i would get nailed for noise polution, but i havent.

good luck

The tailpipes have ot exit beyond the passenger compartment.
That's why it's ok for trucks.
Most inspectors probally won't catch it anyway.

Thanks guys!!! I think I'm just going to do it. I have emissions coming up soon and will do it right after that. That way I have 2 years until I have to do that again.
